Official: West Ham appoint Director of Football

West Ham have officially announced the appointment of Mario Husillos as the Club’s first Director of Football.

The experienced and widely respected Argentinian joins the Hammers after a spell as sporting director at Malaga, where in 2012/13 he worked with the Club’s new manager Manuel Pellegrini through the most-successful period in the Spanish side’s history. Husillos has put pen to paper on a three-year deal.

He told WHUFC.com: “I am very excited. West Ham United is a club with huge ambition. The challenge to help deliver that ambition is what really attracted me to the role.

“I know the manager well and know he wants to deliver an exciting brand of attacking football. It will be my job to supply him with the tools to do just that.

“I am very much looking forward to working with Manuel Pellegrini again. We had great success together at Malaga, reaching the Champions League, and he is someone that I have huge respect for.

“I have seen West Ham play many times before. The fans are very passionate and close to the team, and I hope we can give them a team to be proud of next season.”

  1. Some times you have to think that when rumours come out by the “redtop” papers earlier this week that the so called journalists who write them are supporters of the spuds chelzki or arse up nal???????😊

    • That’s why I don’t read them, and spend my time on the official site or on here. They’re only interested in sensationalising things, or blatantly making things up to sell papers (aka comic books) for simpletons who lap it all up verbatim. It’s high time there was a recognised code of conduct that allowed you to differentiate between factual based stories and made up BS. I won’t hold my breath.

  2. Yep its a well known fact journalists dislike Westham,

Its like when Leicester had 6 fans storm the pitch in a protest last season, it was not reported in any papers.

I generally hate the news of today.

There is no honour in ruining a storey any more, you don’t have to investigate it to see if its true. The truth doesn’t sell papers, that’s the only truth.

  3. The Sun & Co are getting less & less relivent as their circulation falls & the half truths and outright ……. on just about everything is disregarded by virtually everyone.
In my opinion the last of the great sports journalists Hugh McIlvanney (Observer/Guardian/S.Times) retired aged 84 in 2016. A great football/Boxing reporter.
As said, Offical site, here & Ex only ones worth reading/listening to.

  4. Second all u say about Hugh Mc
