Oggy’s hopes

By Dave Langton

Angelo Ogbonna is desperate to get a good pre-season under his belt as he bids to prove his worth once again.

The defender is nearing a return to full fitness and is set to return to training ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Oggy may be 34 but he was exceptional at points last season before his injury, rupturing his cruciate ligament in that famous 3-2 win over Liverpool.

He was second only to Kurt Zouma in the squad’s defensive hierarchy and he is poised to sign a new contract as a reward for his loyalty and his performances prior to his injury.

Now, he is desperate to play significant minutes throughout pre-season as he looks to return to the level he managed to reach last season.

He will have more competition this season after Nayef Aguerd was signed from Rennes but Moyes remains a huge fan of the Italian and if he can show his worth, he will undoubtedly be given a chance.

One comment on “Oggy’s hopes

  1. This can only be good news, hope Oggy can get back to full fitness now. Wishing him all the very best, it was so enjoyable to watch him play especially last season, when he and Kurt were awesome for us. He went down just in front of us in the Bobby Moore stand as we were doing well against Liverpool. It was horrible to see him taken off, as it turns out, for the season. Class player.
