West Ham United stalwart Angelo Ogbonna is set to continue his career in his native Italy, with Fiorentina emerging as a potential destination.
The veteran defender, a firm fan favourite during his nine-year spell at the London Stadium, departed the club at the end of last season. Despite his advancing years, Ogbonna remained a reliable figure in the Hammers defence. His superb tackling, his aerial ability and his overall class quickly saw him become a fan favourite in East London, and his departure was met with widespread disappointment.
Fiorentina, who are keen to bolster their defensive options after narrowly missing out on European qualification, have identified Ogbonna as a potential target. However, the move could be tinged with irony given the strained relationship between the two clubs following the heated Europa Conference League final.
West Ham fans, while sad to see their former captain depart, will undoubtedly wish Ogbonna well in the next stage of his career. His impact on the club will not be forgotten.
Past his best for sure, but I hope that many like me want to see him settle somewhere that will appreciate the leader and the character that he undoubtedly is.
Good on ya Uncle Ange, all the best!
