“Oh No, Not Again” | West Ham Curse is Hitting Hard

Most reasonably minded West Ham fans would agree that football agents are a bit of a blight on the game. It’s tough to see excessively vast amounts of money involved in deals ultimately bleed out of the game we all love as a result of player representation.

However, as much as we dislike the role agents’ play and begrudge the amounts of money they take for seemingly doing very little, they are a necessary evil and a big part of football.

Therefore, it is somewhat concerning to find West Ham struggling once again to complete transfer negotiations due to an inability or unwillingness to pay agents’ fees.

The most recent case in point is Bayern Munich right-back Noussair Mazraoui, whose transfer to the London Stadium has fallen through due to a disagreement regarding his agent’s commission.

Whilst I don’t have any strong opinions on the player himself, this occurrence is becoming a little too common for my liking. West Ham are handicapped by an inability to negotiate effectively with football agents, and it’s starting to hurt. There should not be a situation where the Irons negotiating team agrees personal terms with the player and the selling club but repeatedly fails to strike a deal with the agents.

Something is going horribly wrong in terms of West Ham’s negotiations, and it’s been happening for a long time. It feels as if we have an inability to modernise and adjust to the way football works. We might not like it, but we had better start adjusting to it, or we may find ourselves lagging behind our competition, who seem to be far more adept at this stuff than we are.

The player used our interest to get Man U nibbling. Nothing Tim can do about that. The whole thing’s a chess game but let’s not underestimate TS. Kudus was THE signing of last year.

  • Dave says:

Lewis Orford should tell the club to do one as well, they have treated him appallingly through the villa discussions.
England U18 captain hung out to dry, he must be disillusioned with the club now as well.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Only those on the inside know, Sullivan like Levy is notoriously tight fisted. I thought we were supposed to be doing the Red Bull model but we seem to be targeting players at Elite clubs. They are going to be on big money so I have no idea why we are wasting time trying to sign them…

These failed negotiations are not a surprise, the only surprises are when we get a deal over the line.

  • Matt says:

We should all know by now….never believe anything until we see the player holding the shirt!

  • MB says:

Nothing will change in terms of West Ham transfers until there is a change of ownership

  • David Lambert says:

    Shoot the funking greedy agents

  • Cubbie says:

I believed transfer dealings would improve under the new regime . How stupid do I feel now . It is shambolic… same old same old . “Hammers interested in …. deal agreed … etc etc ….” We ae the laughing stock of the Premiereship . Won’t pay the money and take the dregs after the other clubs have taken their pick . It is a disgrace … Run like a market stall in Green Street .

  • vince says:

Had high hopes things would change under steitdon, they havent , its still the same circus and apart from the one brazilian i havent seen many of these hidden gems we were going to start signing.

Just pass the whole lot over to salthouse as he’s the only one Sullivan wants to deal with

  • Martin storrie says:

Dithering tight wad David sullivan at it again, Duran going to Newcastle now? We are the laughing stock.

    • Jeeps says:

Perhaps we can get Duran off whu site.
Never going to pay transfer fee required.
Any transfer fees are going to be a max. of £20m.
Need to start being realistic and get their head out of the sand.
Blinkered approach_Lingard/Maguire/Toney/Duran/Summerville to much time spent chasing shadows.
Sort out some affordable players and go for them.
May need all academy players available.
Never mind top six, Europe more like mid table.
No wonder there’s a problem signing players.

  • vince says:

Our owners live in the past . While clubs now accept whether it’s good or not (not in my opinion ) agents are part of any transfer.

Sullivan cant accept that hence why he keeps going back to salthouse. The clubs a joke and always will be under the current owners.

  • Mike says:

Some of you can’t wait to put the boot in can you.
Hate to see you lot negotiate for players we would be bankrupt with in a week

    • vince says:

Not at all , id just do my homework before i progressed the transfer. How these things keep coming as a surprise is beyond me.

  • Barry says:

Hardly a West Ham curse, it happens to all clubs. Transfers are difficult and deal collapse for all clubs.

  • Graham says:

Back end of July / early August is generally footballs ‘panic we haven’t signed half a squad yet’ period, not just us but across the league.
We would all love to have had our transfers done so everyone is there for pre-season, but that just isn’t what happens for anyone. It always goes on until close to deadline day. Whilst it might be frustrating that we haven’t completed a deal for a right back yet, if the fee, plus wages, plus agent fee is beyond what Stieden think’s he’s worth, then we are right to walk away. With the FFP/PSR rules being carefully watched now and point deductions for failing them, the days of clubs just paying whatever transfer fee and whatever the agent asks for are over, unless you just want to sign a player or 2. The lack of deals in the whole league so far shows everyone is in the same boat. Successful transfer windows in the new financial rules era are going to be about patience, something us fans are not overly renowned for!

  • Paul lewis says:

I really don’t see what the fuss is about. Social media nowadays has to be fed so we get an endless feed of rumours which hardly ever come off.
All clubs are the same on this, just speak to other supporters and you will see.
If you don’t like it, then don’t access it and wait until the club confirms any transfer.
I’m sure our guys are working tirelessly on sorting it out, and getting the right players in.

  • Jh says:

Well that’d that until Monday as west ham don’t work weekends 😁

  • David Moyes says:

Wouldn’t it be nice if we went about our business quietly, not highlighting to every other club out there our targets and what we are looking to pay….it’s amateur hour..yet again.
For whatever reason we just don’t get the deal over the line, then all the other clubs out there look at who were trying to get and go hold on here’s a player we didnt even think of,looks pretty good let’s go get him, cheers West Ham for f*#*in it up your end.
    Sick of it all now.

    • Paul Brush says:

Amateur hour is paying what other clubs demand and giving into agents demands. Outside the greedy six all the clubs that do well in the transfer market don’t do it that way.

  • Chris says:

Whoever is negotiating the deal why does this keep on happening . Always something unknown coming up . Who is the person that is letting these deals down and not get done . Find out then fire them as it’s costing this club its future success and it keeps happening . One unhappy Hammer !!! It makes the
    Club look ridiculous

  • Chicken run says:

The only clubs to have spent anything like “big money “ on players so far this window are Villa and Man united which would suggest it is no just us having trouble

    • Kip says:

Sorry but lots of deals hsve been done by prem clubs…just go look it up ….the clowns running our club is the problem….its never our fault…but this is , I think the 4th one to fall through in the last couple weeks…dosnt that say something to you ?

    • John Ayris says:

Man Us revenue is far higher than ours, while Villas revenue is less than ours they have sold big time too…

Transfers are often not straightforward, a number of things need to come together in order for them to happen

  • Bill Ryan says:

If it was a salthouse player Sullivan would pay it he’s sabotaging our chance to compete this window we have money to spend next season we won’t be able to unless we get Europe but without significant signings we won’t wish kretinsky would get more involved while Sullivan is playing football manager were going nowhere

    • Graham says:

Bill Ryan what proof have you got that these deals are failing because of Sullivan. You are one of these fans who still live in the pass and try to always blame the board. Football is a business, there is only so much in the kitty. Just remember the £400m that Moyes spent didn’t hear ‘fans’ knocking the board then.

  • Anton says:

Shambolic once again, the clock is ticking Tim!

    • NorfolkHammer says:

don’t think it’s Tim, he looks at players that will suit the system. He then says to the dwarf how much the club wants, & so it’s mucky fingers striking again I can see Tim & JLo leaving before the season starts & the phone call to Moyes come back please hope I’m wrong

  • Paul Sewell says:

Same b* every transfer window. We say this and that about players and then it collapses. We need new people to take over and not have Del Boy trying to lowball everything. For Christ sake just get a striker . About 3 years now we’ve been linked with everyone and still relying on Antonio. This shit show has got to stop especially as they are now fleecing the fans for more and more money

  • Wayne says:

Thought under Tim things would change, it of course not, all believed was Moyes, but only person now still around is the dwarf, looking a joke

  • Burch says:

Trying to sign players from Bayern or Man Utd on the cheap isn’t easy!

KWP would sign for us in a heartbeat if we’d pay what Southampton want, but if we don’t value him that much then that’s that.

    Hardly a curse is it?

    • Sean says:

WH have to be the only club who can sell Rice for £105M and then complain about an inflated market that they won’t be drawn in to. Steiden can identify all the players for Newcastle, Leicester and Villa to buy ! You couldn’t make it up

    • DJHammer says:

Totally agree. If all terms are agreed upon and the player decides to accept an alternative offer then good for him. Disappointing for Hammers but that’s a part of life too. Nevermind.
