OS Public Inquiry petition goes national

olympic-stadium-and-west-ham-badge-pic-pa-391417952A petition setup by  Richard Hunt from the Charlton Athletic Supporter Trust has gone national. One further London Supporters group, AFC Wimbledon’s Dons Trust added their name to the list of supporters backing the call.

Now Aston Villa Supporters’ Trust, Everton’s Blue Union, Leicester’s Foxes Trust, Manchester United Supporters’ Trust and Norwich City’s Canaries Trust have all added their name to demand for a public inquiry into West Ham Olympic Stadium agreement with the LLDC.

Although the petition quickly reached 10,000 within 24 hours, it is now running out of steam one week later and currently stands at 22,000 as this article is published.

The outcome of the petition is likely to have little effect on the Government response, the issue has been debated to death in the House of Commons and House of Lords as well as the London Assembly and various budget sub committees within parliament.

A public inquiry would cost a minimum of £10 million and is in no-ones interest to pursue not least the tax payer.

    A) The rent will rise over time anyway as it is index linked.
    B) Unless it can be proven that the deal was frivolus in the first place you cannot change the terms of the deal unilaterally, it is a binding contract, you cannot just start a new bidding process from scratch at this point. If they did West Ham would have reason to sue the government and you wouldn’t want to open that can of worms.
The taxpayer would have to suffer a lot more if that were to happen.
    C) Which court/judge would be the right one to determine what a fair deal should be ?

I am somewhat at a loss as to what this apparently colossal waste of time is intended to achieve?

I don’t think that the people signing the petition know 90% of the truth, read a few headlines and read a bit of Twitter then decide it’s all wrong.

I do worry though that pressure will make them change the details of our agreement- it’s already happened once when we won the deal to own the stadium abc we had to reapply to rent the stadium… I guess they can only increase the rent if things do change again
