Olympic stadium update

London’s Met Police Helicopter published this aerial photo of our new home yesterday saying “They’ve nearly finished putting a lid on it! Thought you might all like an update”

The stadium roof is nearing completion after running into complications late last year. London Legacy Development Corporation agreed to pay construction firm Balfour Beatty an extra £35.9m on top of the £154m already agreed to complete the conversion.

When work to convert the Olympic Stadium is complete the total confirmed spend so far will reach £619m mainly funded by the taxpayer.

The first stadium event is scheduled in just over two months time on the 19th July when Morrisons Great Newham run is staged, Sainsbury’s Anniversary games will take place shortly afterwards between 24-26th July followed a rugby match between Batbarians and Samoa on 29th August.

The main event will be the Rugby world cup between September and October this year.

  1. Looks good not a bit of asbestos in sight,
With all these events planned all the teething problems should be over by the time our team runs out for the first time,
What great adventure Rafa as manager we qualify for Europe and play Real Madrid at home first game,
    There the dreaming stop.
Better than BFS in second season of new contract as Nolan leads us out against Brentwood
In the first game back in the championship
    NOT FEELING SO SERCURE NOW

  2. Well we are going there now,no going back.It is our new home whether we like it or not.Suprised that the decision wasnt taken after consultation with the West Ham Super Fans on wetpants.Mind you most wont go anyway so it doesnt really matter 😉

  3. I for one can’t wait to go and sing my heart out at this new stadium.
Been going since the Sixties, seen all of our greats from Moore, Peters, Hurst onwards.
If I hear one more person question if we’ll fill it, they simply don’t realise the enormous and unique catchment area WHUFC have.
From East London out to the Essex Coast, no other PL club, as far NE as Suffolk, no other PL club, notwithstanding all of the Docklands.
Times are changing, we’ve got to move with the times!

  4. Totally agreee DJ,times move on,we are going there.Time to get on with it & enjoy it.If we have a decent side we will fill it easily in my opinion.Im hoping it is a Sam free zone by then though 😉

  5. It doesn’t have to be BFS free – He can come to see what it’s like to experience attacking football, played the West Ham way with his “one up top” jurrasic football as he tries to keep a clean sheet against us with Chicharito, Sakho, Valencia & co. all being used properly…
Yeah, I’d love to see Lord of the Pies at the OS – In the visitors dugout – ONCE A YEAR!!!!! COYI
