Ominous Masuaku warning

West Ham’s defensive problems could hardly be more intense as we enter the most important two weeks of our recent history.

And that leaves the manager with some crucial selection issues at the back ahead of what may be considered the lesser of the week’s two fixtures against Chelsea tomorrow {Sun}.

With three central defenders injured, the boss has Ryan Fredericks, Vladi Coufal, Craig Dawson, Aaron Cresswell and Ben Johnson available with the possibility of Decklan Rice slipping into the back four.

Alex Kral is another who can play there and we were told Tomas Soucek could as well when he signed.

There’s also Arthur Masuaku!!!

Which way the boss will go isn’t worth guessing at although the London Evening Standard’s Jack Rosser rightly  points out that the early Moyes success was built on a back three,

And adds that may well be on his mind given Arsenal’s success at the Bridge after matching Chelsea’s formation.

However he adds that full backs Johnson and Cress could line up either side of Daws although ominously that would probably mean a recall for Arthur Masuaku at left wing back.

  1. Yet again I find myself in the really weird position of loving what the manager has achieved and hoping for a good result whilst being incredulous at his potential inclusion of Masuaku. It’s like watching Dr Who from behind the sofa as kids!

  2. Kral has played Internationally at Centre Half and been quite good. So why the hell not just give the poor man a break and actually give him the entire game to prove himself. Others have been granted time, why can’t Kral get an entire game to get himself back to the level he is known for. Masuaku is just a waste of space. Kral is at least tall and gave England a good game when they played the Czech’s.

  3. Kral has to feature in the starting XI somewhere today. I believe that Johnson has played youth team football at centre-back. I wouldn’t start Cresswell there unless Moyes plays three at the back with Masuaku at left wing back. Not ideal, I know.
