On-loan Hammer heads for Wembley final

Josh Cullen is on a high as his his on-loan campaign at Charlton saw him help fire the Addicks into the League One play off final against Doncaster Rovers yesterday (Friday).

Now he looks certain to play a key role in the Final as the south Londoners go into action against Sunderland on May 26.

The 23 year old has been told by Manuel Pellegrini that he wants him back for pre-season and now has a real opportunity to impress the boss into keeping him at the club.

Ok, League One is not the Premier League but the midfielder has had a top spell with Charlton  scoring twice and assisting in six goals as the Addicks mounted their bid for Championship football next season.

Both Cullen and Edmilson Fernandes – who has been on a loan spell with Fiorentina – are expected to be watched closely by Pellegrini in pre-season before any final decision is made on their futures.

  1. Good to see hopefully he’ll be kept and not loaned out as 4 Fernandes hes saying he doesn’t want 2 play 4 us

  2. Report: West Ham willing to trigger Salomon Rondon’s £16.5m release clause. You said he was on a free. I don’t expect your incredibly fragile ego to allow this post, but please know that you have a certain responsibility to get things right. blatantly making stuff up serves no purpose.

  3. I was at the game last night and I have to say that I spent a lot of the time watching Cullen to see how he performed. I am delighted he is going to Wembley but Pelle does not need to bring him back preseason he is not PL standard. He did not stand out last night imo. As for Fernandez the only reason I would bring him back is to see could he play a box to box role not like the role that Bilic deployed him in, IMO he is not PL standard either and I would accept offers for both Cullen and Fernandez. We need to keep progressing not staying the same.

  4. Brilliant for the young man …that’s what loans are about gaining experience. . Hope he can impress ME in pre season

  5. Should read impress MP in pre season

  6. It’s worth remembering Harry Kane didn’t stand out as Premier League quality in any of his loans. Cullen seems to always do well and he always says how he wants to play for West Ham. I’d be sad if he didn’t get a chance to show whether he’s good enough or not. I still look at players like Obiang and wonder, would we really be that worse off having Cullen or Coventry coming on for the last 15 minutes in a handful of games per season?

    • Dom, Cullen played very poorly during preseason last year. I would love to think he would make it as he is one of ours but I just don’t see it – I hope he proves me wrong.

  7. Cullen desveres a chance at least he be a solid squad option & is loved by Bowyer & League one pundits have said he is the best deep lying mid in the league. He still needs to work on his goals but his work rate passion passing are all there.
Id be happy with him being in our squad. He has never really got a proper run & I’d rather give him a go the play Sanchez tbh
