On-loan Hammer may become the new Noble!

Conor Coventry is finally making the progress we expected after a miserable time with Peterborough United where a year’s loan was cut short.

The :Posh have barely improved since and are currently bang bottom of the Championship whilst Conor’s new loan outfit MK Dons are involved in a big promotion push in League One.

The Hammers deep lying midfielder has appeared in all nine games since joining the club in January helping to push them into joint second place with Wigan Athletic behind Rotherham Unitd.

It’s precisely the sort pf situation we needed to see from the youngster who was tipped by former academy chief Terry Westley as a possible Mark Noble successor and who looked hugely impressive in pre-season.

The Dons latest win – 2-0 – came over  a Bolton Wanderers team which featured Coventry’s former Academy of Football teammate Oladapo Afolayan and again saw the Republic of Ireland U21s captain once again impress at Stadium MK.
Later dubbed on the Dons’ Twitter channel “the Irish Xavi”, the 21-year-old  almost picked up his second assist in two matches, slipping the ball through for Scott Twine in the first half only, for the forward to hit the post.

Goals from Mohamed Eisa and Twine later on eventually secured the victory for Coventry and his side, who, ahead of a seriously important trip to Rotherham United on Saturday

    Very good. I thought he looked great pre-season and was a little disappointed when he was sent out on loan. But, I guess with Rice and Soucek, and Noble in his last season, it was unlikely Coventry would get much game time had he stayed.
    Regardless, though, after this and Samuelson, I hope we never send another player to Barry Fry.
