West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui is coming under mounting pressure following the Hammers’ 4-1 derby loss to Tottenham yesterday.
It’s the sort of pressure that nobody expected the Spaniard to face so early in his West Ham reign. But Lopetegui is no longer the new kid on the block as he enters his fifth month in charge at The London Stadium, and excuses are beginning to run out.
Personally, I was in no rush to judge the former Real Madrid manager early in his Hammers career and always thought it would be unfair to assess him before November. Unfortunately, we are nearly there, and as fans, we would hope to be seeing some signs of improvement by now.
Of course, there was a brief uplift following the Premier League win against Ipswich Town, but the team seems to be no further along than they were in the opening day defeat to Aston Villa.
The one statistic that Lopetegui could hide behind was his excellent record away from home, but that has now been erased by yesterday’s defeat in North London.
Max Kilman’s observation that West Ham were getting better but ‘lost concentration’ just won’t cut it as an excuse anymore. The Hammers should be too far into the Lopetegui project for such things to be an issue, particularly given that the Irons’ gaffer had a whole two weeks on the training ground to drill the Hammers’ defence.
Time is running out for Lopetegui. Not only are West Ham fans getting nervous, but the mainstream media is getting on his back too, which means trouble.
We’ve not yet heard that Lopetegui only has three games remaining, but I would not be surprised if, privately, that very deadline has been discussed.
10 games left until Christmas.
Only 2 are against top 6 clubs, Arsenal and Brighton, both home games.
8 wins needed, what’s the chance?
Hopefully a striker (who can score) will be forthcoming as next 10 games are not so inviting.
They include Liverpool/ManCity/Villa/Chelsea/Arsenal.
Needs to play Summerville from start and not Antonio (last 30 minutes is his maximum).
Results are not showing a £110 million back line.
Sullivans crying over the new governments non dom rule . Hopefully they squeeze him even harder on October 30 . Our great club will pick up like dancing brave in the 1986 derby once he sells up . R
Or end up.like Shergar if he doesn’t 😀
If Lopetegui has any serious coaching skills, you would think that he would have some sense of the gravity of his situation and would already have initiated some sort of damage limitation plan. Multiple heavy defeats will not typically buy you endless support in football. Termination of his contract in less than a year will do nothing to enhance an already questionable resume, making another $multi-million contract less likely. Those things alone would make most people dig really deep into their reserves of knowledge and experience, so let us watch what carefully crafted plan he rolls out for Sundays visit by Man. Utd. It is going to have to be outstanding, and so far removed from everything he has done to date, I can hardly contain myself.
Didn’t want him. Probably the cheapest option. F*** him off out of it. Bloody embarrassing. Coyi
He’s shit end of we were warned…but.the midgets stubbornness fked usx
Players have off days but not all of them the incoming players have huge reputations and the players who were good last season are all out of form for what ever reason.Sullivan will always will be to blame he doesn’t give a ****
Seventy four years I have supported our club and when this situation happens has to be lack of training
and everything else if the players all don’t react to the coaching staff and most of all our wonderful fans then
Manager / coach will have to go this was the one game they needed to up for it.
See you all Sunday cab then then train and a very long walk with a stick and all we need is the players to show up.
I always had my doubts about him & when I expressed these on the C&H FB page I was called a moaner & negative and eventually left the group & have been subsequently banned.
I was never a Moyes hater & always said better the devil you know…I was in a minority of one on that group I think…LOL
The problem is who to appoint as manager – last season Glasner was the hottest property – now he also faces the sack – by the end of the season De Zerbi had been found out in the premier league
I think now our biggest need – even more than a striker – is a strong and pacy box to box midfielder – yes we should have kept Flynn Downes – I am not sure that Soler is the answer but I am sure that 3 out of Alvarez, Rodrigues, Soucek and Paqueta do not have the legs required and teams will now follow Spurs second half blue print and rip us to pieces through the midfield
He was a poor choice for Manager. He has not been helped by the lack of a decent striker. In January we have to sign a quality forward, and a hungry Manager.
I vaguely recall, a couple of seasons ago when Arteta first became manager,
he was under immense pressure from press and maybe supporters when results
were poor and the talk of sacking was loud .
For those in the know or follow Arse, it would be interesting to find out the difference or similarities
in Lopetegui’s case. Do you think he can or has the abilities to turn it around like Arteta ?
Or should we take our loss now and sack him?
Get rid, go get Potter. If he was good enough tobe considered for England, he should be good enough for us.
Potters Teams . Don’t score enough goals . Ask Brighton and Chelsea fans . Like lopetegui it’s pleasing to the eye . But with no penetration .
Come on really , the players need to look at themselves . Ok J-LO is the manager but surely the players should be working with him . No fight or togetherness they all need to work together . Are you really going to sit there and say the players have no responsibility , to the manager, club or fans
Surely Mark it is the way they are being instructed. I’m all for giving the guy a chance but seems to be one step forward two steps back all the time.
JL needs to go we are only going one way with him and that’s downwards ok the players do need to take stock but maybe things as bad as they are because JL rubs them up the wrong way and causes friction between the players and between himself and the players we must remember that the players are human beings and like everyone one of us if pushed to far will crack and lash out we have the quality players to be challenging the top half of the league so it has to be how JL Sets the tactics and where he places them in the team so clearly the problem is JL and he needs to go
C’mon guys. The game was in the balance until half time and I thought we played okay until then. Had Kudus’ shot gone in which the keeper made an awesome save, things could have been different. A deflected goal and an own goal were unlucky. Spuds are a quality team and we deserved to lose but not by that much.
You got it wrong Sully. Own it and lose him. You’ve got the dough. Suck it up and just do it. Pick up the phone and tell the duchess to do her job. It’s a dog fight down in the long grass and Loppy isn’t the guy to get us out of it
Agree . We all know this wasn’t Tim and nobes choice. Another Sullivan cluster fuck
