One January signing can make the difference

One January signing can seal Euro spot

During the game against Manchester United, I found myself looking towards the Hammers’ bench for inspiration. At the time, the game was in a stalemate at 0-0 as both teams sought a game-changer. Erik ten Hag blinked first by introducing Marcus Rashford, but West Ham had no such player capable of changing the course of the game.

Fortunately, David Moyes shuffled his pack and managed to find the match winners from within the eleven players on the pitch. However, it did highlight the paucity of options on the bench, particularly players whom the manager trusts.

Tim Steidten will be looking to make one big January signing to make a difference at West Ham

One January signing from Tim Steidten could make a massive difference.

Hammers need January game-changer

At various points in their careers, Said Benrahma, Maxwel Cornet, and Pablo Fornals could all be described as creative game-changers. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. So, West Ham needs to buy a player whom David Moyes is desperate to use and who presents the manager with a dilemma as much as an option.

Ideally, another versatile player like Jarrod Bowen or Mohammed Kudus who can cover a multitude of positions. The player would have to be a hard worker, or Moyes would leave him on the bench, and we’d be in exactly the same position.

West Ham have used the fewest players of any team in the Premier League, but we’ve also played the most games. It’s not a situation that can be allowed to continue if the team is to avoid burnout. Just one more effective player who can create chances and offer a threat could make a huge difference.

It would mean our first-choice players could be rested after an hour during some games, which would, in turn, benefit the team in the following fixture. Hopefully, Tim Steidten is already on the case, but the deal will need to be done early with Brighton likely to be Kudus’s last game before the AFCON
