The Watford Observer has reported that former West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna has joined Watford on a free transfer.

The Italian international and fan favourite was released by the Hammers at the end of last season and has now found a new club. Ogbonna made 17 appearances for West Ham last season, including two in the Europa League where he captained the side.

Ogbonna is Hammers legend, making 201 appearances in the Premier League. Despite his performances at The London Stadium last season, Oggy is more than capable of dropping down a division and playing well.

The 13-cap defender signed from Serie A giants Juventus in 2015 and had been a regular for West Ham until last season.

Being a left-sided defender, Ogbonna looks to be a direct replacement for the outgoing Wesley Hoedt.

The 36 year old’s experience and leadership qualities will be valuable additions to Watford’s squad.

We wish him all the best as he starts, perhaps, his final chapter in the game

Will be nice to see him plying his trade in England still. A real fan favourite and I hope he does well.

Top man, excellent player. I wish Oggy well with \Watford and hope we draw them in the FA Cup at our place so he can come back..

    Good luck to you Oggie!

Very best of luck to him. He understood the club and always gave his best. Came back from a couple of very serious injuries.

I hope he comes back one day as a coach or staff of some kind, if he goes that route after retiring.
