“One Of The Bargains of 2025” Is Potter’s Prime Target

We are all preoccupied with this search undertaken by West Ham to try and secure a striker in January: Of course it is the absolute priority for the cub and the ‘manager’ (head coach? I don’t think so!). Graham Potter kept his cards pretty close to his chest during recent press conferences, refusing to be drawn over players which the club may, or may not be seeking to bring in.

From the flurry of activity now taking place regarding Luis Guilherme’s departure, it seems to me clear that the Hammers are planning on shelling out big time this window. They’d certainly keep the Brazilian on the books if they didn’t have a definite target in mind to blow the cash on this winter.

Potter seems to know exactly what he wants and footballfancast.com along with others (tbrfootball) have focussed on one name coming up several times of late: Their article:” West Ham readying offer to 169-goal striker after Graham Potter request” is pretty unequivocal in naming Jonathan David as the prime target:

West Ham are ready to make an offer to David, and Potter has made it “clear” to the club that he wants them to compete for the Brooklyn native’s services. David is quickly growing his reputation as a “world-class” centre-forward, and arguably what West Ham need. However, they’ll have to wait until later in the year to seal his signature for nothing.”

There is always a danger in being seduced by these reports simply because we’d like it to be true: Gonzo’s Claret and Hugh article last night confirms West Ham’ interest with David alongside his team mate Angel Gomes, both of whom will be out of contract in the summer.

Hammers will need to gamble. If they wait until the summer to pick David up on a ‘free’ then they’ll face competition from clubs who offer European football and get blown away in the rush. A decent bid to Lille now could grab his transfer ahead of the field and bring Graham Potter his number one target and an absolute top quality goal scorer to London Stadium.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. Don't take my comments too seriously, imagine we are having a chat at half time over a pint at L S and "let's disagree without falling out".

These replies have hit nail on the head why would he commit now and sabotage his demands as a free agent in summer.
Last count there were 6 clubs plus whu wanting his services (probably more in the wings).
If he had some desires (for whatever reason) of joining whu this transfer season is only chance.
Summer season will be open to all and sundar toy. Whu way down list, if even mentioned.
Now being linked with £33m blistering 22 year old, has blistering speed/elite talent who Liverpool want.
Patrick Dorgu. Who is he? 18 days into transfer period and never been mentioned previously.
Whu don’t seem to have a clue if this true just stick to job in hand A STRIKER.

Really hope we don’t sell Guilherme.. stupid decision in my opinion, he’s 18, has had no chance to prove himself, can only get better and will get home grown to club in 3 years, which we’ll need if we ever get into Europe again, also I don’t think there’s much chance he’s worse than Ings

      Keep him.
      Definitely not for £15m.
Also need to include a sell on clause (min 20%)
No need to sell because it appears won’t be any incoming players.

If you look at football news in general you’ll see Manchester United,Tottenham and Newcastle are all being linked with David too. Whoever his agent is must be touting him around. Quite clever of them when you think about it.

Never ever going to happen, another story to make us dream and then frustrated. Should’ve bought him years ago, he’s been prolific for years but obviously west ham lack a scouting system. We go buy absolute rubbish like scamacca and over look these young quality players.

He is never coming to a team currently competing in the bottom half of the pre.ier league with no European football. Why would he sign in January when in 6months time he can sign for a big pool of teams, ask for high wages and a large signing on fee

  • Q says:

I can’t believe it. Man U and Tottenham and every other team both need a striker so why would we advertise who our main target was if there was a danger we could be sabotaged. Must mean it’s a red herring because we’re after someone else. Distraction techniques.

Yes we’re after Evan Ferguson but now Arsenal are showing an interest. So good luck with that.

  • Ammers 66 says:

We are sh*t when it comes to transfers both in and out. We let go too cheaply and quickly and tell Everyman and his dog what we might or are going to do, tipping everyone off and driving the price up….. and protracting the process. Thought Steiden would help this….no!

    • Joe says:

Steidten was pretty good in that regard last summer, didn’t really hear too much about transfer until they’d happened.. now Sullivan is back in charge of them we’re hearing everything through “board confidants”

  • Dutch Courage says:

Hope you’re right Martin but just can’t see anyway that this will happen. The player holds all the aces and will surely wait 5 months until he’s a free agent. Massive signing on fee and massive salary and Champions league football with pretty much the club of his choice. Why would he consider moving to West Ham now?
