West Ham midfielder Flynn Downes is believed to have passed his Southampton medical ahead of his £18M transfer move.
Claret & Hugh have spoken to the club within the past hour and they were keen to say that Downes has conducted himself professionally throughout the pre-season.
The Essex-born midfielder would have had time to impress new Hammers head coach Julen Lopetegui over the past 10 days. However, with James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez, Freddie Potts, Lewis Orford, Tomas Soucek, and Andy Irving all on the books, it was decided that cashing in on a player was best for all parties.
Downes himself was more than happy to move back to the South Coast where he enjoyed a hugely successful campaign in the Championship.
Saints boss Russell Martin had been determined to sign Downes on a permanent transfer following his successful loan spell last season and has been on the charm offensive in recent days.
Southampton upped their rejected £15m bid which was made last week, with the Hammers accepting yesterdays improved offer. West Ham are expected to make a £5m profit on the £12m deal which took Downes from East London to Swansea.
Pretty sure that Downes was signed for £8.5m, I doubt very much that any add on payments were triggered given the relatively low number of appearances.
