One that got away set for new deal

Ivan Toney is the one that got away for West Ham and he now looks set to sign a new contract at Brentford.

The striker has been in excellent form this season and has scored six goals in nine Premier League games, while also laying on two assists.

The Hammers rejected the chance to sign Toney for around £10m when he was still at Peterborough United.

And he has now reached a level where he is receiving England call-ups, and scoring goals with regularity in the top-flight.

Now, the Mirror reports that Brentford are desperate to tie him down to avoid the potential of him leaving on the cheap.

He has not signed a new contract since joining the Bees in 2020 and they want to keep him out of the clutches of the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle, and the Hammers, who have continued to watch him.

History could have been so different if the Irons had taken that plunge…
