One tweet puts Stadium ‘trouble ‘ in perspective

notting-hillIt’s time for some perspective despite the Football Association promising inquiries, probes and all the rest of it into last Wednesday evening.

In no way will I try to excuse the behaviour of a couple of hudered idiots who decided to really harm West Ham’s name by some missile throwing which was basically a shower of coins.

We’ve seen the pictures, heard the interviews from a Chelsea fan with a chip on his shoulder, and read statement upon statement from everbody involved.

It’s been two days of chaos with an MP demanding that any repeats should mean we play behind closed doors plus of course the threat of some FA action.

trouble1However, a tweet emerged this evening which really hit a very small nail on the head with a large hammer.

It read: Keenos ‏@KeenosAFC Oct 27
A few fans throwing coins at each other makes more news than 43 officers being injured, 450 arrested & 5 stabbed at Notting Hill Carnival…

We can’t vouch for the absolute accuracy of those figure but a report from the London Evening Standard in August said:  “Met Police reported the highest number of arrests in a decade, even more than during a riot at the end of 2008’s event.

“More than 3,500 canisters of nitrous oxide “laughing gas” with a street value of £17,000 were seized, alongside £30,000 worth of counterfeit  alcohol.

“The violence, which saw several police officers injured, included a  “brutal attack” on a man in his 20s, who was left bleeding heavily after being hit by a bottle following an argument in Portnall Road, near Kilburn Lane.”

Like I say – a little perspective please!

  1. Careful there – you could be mistaken for a voice of reason….

  2. There are hundreds if not thousands of things happen everyday in the world that put it in to perspective.
But what would some of our support do if they didnt have the stadium or Brady to moan about or Upton Park to sob about. They would have a vacuum in their lives hehe

  3. why mess up the medias witch hunt by talking sense and putting things in perspective? Play behind closed doors. Lose points. ok. As long as it also applies to every other team in the league. What a great way for away fans to get Manure,Totscum,Bindippers points deducted. Just go there confront them and wait for the bleeding hearts to demand they lose points. Unfortunately this happens at most grounds every week but it only seems to get reported when it’s West Ham involved. Last season Liverpool’s coach was attacked at Man U, nothing said. As soon as West ham did it there was mayhem. Not condoning it but let’s have a level playing field. Also why oh why do so called reporters dramatise things? Words like :mayhem, bomb site,, carnage, toxic (the new buzz word apparantly} Arn’t these so called professionals supposed to report facts? Some of them should branch out into fiction writing. Oops sorry ,they already have. COYI X

  4. Look. The whole situation is easy. Whilst there are idiots to whom violence is a pastime; are associated to our wonderful club, the media will always highlight the wrongdoing as it creates interest in their fish wrappers.
As a club we need to take the higher line, remove the minority of idiots and get on with supporting our wonderful club. The violence and idiocy of the few is making us appear like an unwanted burdon on football.
I beg of you all to allow West Ham United to be known for the football we play and not for the single minded idiots that bring trouble to our new home.
Let us all support in the best way we know how. Singing, chanting and supporting our players as they do wonders on the pitch.

  5. Meanwhile the City fans destroying the toilets at Man U barely got a mention.

  6. the man from Chelsea telling how is daughter was hit all over her body by coins was very amusing. She had to be a magnet to attract so many coins, and had not a scratch to show for it. She stood there totally unharmed and unstressed looking with incredulity while her dad poured his little heart out.
Although her dad said it was definitely west ham who threw the coins at her, she was repoted as saying we don’t know who threw them because it was too dark.
I suggest he just picked them off the floor to help buy another half of lager on the way home.

  7. Not sure why you’ve illustrated this article with a picture of a stabbing at the Notting Hill carnival?
