One week to go

Many of West Ham’s first team squad players will be returning back to Rush Green after their summer holidays to start their pre-season training next week.

Any player who has not been involved in International action this summer will return to the training ground on Monday 1st July to be weighed, medically tested and put through their paces.

Fabianski and Marko Arnautovic were involved in the UEFA 2020 qualifiers while Declan Rice played in the  UEFA Nations League Finals. They are all due to return one week later on Monday 7th July.

Three players are still in tournaments so will join up later after their part in the tournament ends plus extra holiday before returning to pre-season action.

Fabian Balbuena is with the Paraguay squad in Brazil for the Copa America.  Paraquay needs a draw in Monday’s Group C clash between Japan and Ecuador to make progress as one of the two best third-place sides. Should that result go their way, Paraguay would take on host nation Brazil in Porto Alegre on Thursday night. The Copa America concludes on 7th July.

Arthur Masuaku is out in Egypt for the Africa cup of nations, his DR Congo side faces host nation Egypt on Wednesday night. They remain bottom of group A with one game played. Should DR Congo go all the way the final is not until 19th July.

Finally, Pablo Fornals is in Italy with Spain for the European U21 Championships. Spain have already made the semi-finals which will be played this Thursday after Fornals has scored two goals in two matches. Should Spain progress to the finals it is this Sunday on 30th June.

The Hammers are due to fly off to Switerzland for a five-day training camp on week commencing the 7th July before they play their first pre-season friendly on 11th July. After a few days rest they then fly out to China to face Manchester City on 17th July with second game on 20th July. They will fly home and play another pre-season friendly against Fulham on 27th July at Craven Cottage before the Betway Cup against Athletic Bilbao at the London Stadium on 3rd August.
