“Open to Offers” | Brighton Happy as Hammer Come Calling

West Ham are eyeing a potential January loan swoop for Brighton’s out of favour star, Evan Ferguson. The big striker appears not to be part of Seagull’s head coach Fabian Hürzeler’s plans and the South coast club appear ready to do business.

The Republic of Ireland forward has only started one Premier League match this season, with Danny Welbeck, Georginio Rutter, and Joao Pedro ahead of him in Brighton’s attacking pecking order.

Brighton value the 19-year-old at £60 million, but reports suggest Ferguson is open to a temporary move in search of regular first-team opportunities.

West Ham’s need for a striker is glaringly obvious. While Michail Antonio’s performance against Newcastle on Monday was encouraging, there is still far too much responsibility on the veteran.

Niclas Füllkrug’s return to fitness is shrouded in more mystery than an Agatha Christie novel, and the German striker is said to be homesick.

Therefore, a move for Ferguson could benefit all parties, giving West Ham time to make a more permanent decision in the summer transfer window rather than rushing in January.

Lot of potential but quite injury prone. Which is why he hasn’t played much.

If it’s him or Ings, then it’s worth a shout, but I ain’t paying 60m for a Brighton backup. How about 15m? A loan could work but if he’s great then Brighton will be wanting a huge fee again and so we’re back to square one with no first choice striker in the summer.

    Which one?

    Passenger to Frankfurt?
    Thirteen Problems?
    Dead Mans Folly?
or is it a work in progress to become:
    Absent in Spring?

I agree this is a decent sounding loan deal if it could be arranged ,but, somehow i doubt it happening.

FUllkrug should never have been signed his injury record should have ment that he was one to avoid Ok he had a good record with the German national team but the premier league is a completely different story the pace of play and physical nature of the league means you have to be strong have pace especially for a striker and fullkrug doesn’t have those qualities and now he wants to leave which will with out doubt end up costing us in the end

thanks for that, one-sentence-benny, none us knew any of that

      BennyBoy,
Fulkrug was injured on int’l duty, not in the Premiership.
He’d barely played played for West Ham, you cannot place blame English football.
Whether he’s been a good signing or not is a different matter.

I’d like to see how Kudus does upfront. He’s got everything Antonio has but with better control and a better finish. Also means we can keep Summerville and Bowen on the pitch, plus the three that worked so well against Newcastle. If we can get an early lead against Leicester, bring him on for Antonio with 30 minutes and see how it goes. He’d be happier there than on the left!

Stupid question Matt… It fits the Hammer modus operandi perfectly. Always looking for a bargain or getting something on the cheap . Never mind the quality!! Of course you are correct. He has never fulfilled his early potential and is injury prone . 3rd or 4 th choice behind average strikers but it gets Sullivan in the headlines and fuels his ego . Nothing will change until the current owners go .

    • Matt says:

Hasn’t scored in 33 league games, had surgery for ankle ligament damage and missed 150 days last season due to injury.

Sounds like the perfect striker to replace Fullkrug 🤣

  • Carrick hammer says:

Fullkrug homesick don’t make me laugh between international matches and injury treatment (not to mention quiz shows) he has spent more time in Germany than England.

  • Matt says:

Evan has played under 3 different managers at Brighton totalling 54 appearances with only 13 goals.

It seems no Brighton manager has truly trusted Evan by making him a regular in the team or maybe he is just extremely injury prone?

I remember Brighton used to value him at £100m and this has dropped to £60m. I still think that is double what his true value is in the market.

If Evan was worth £60-£100m surely he would be ahead of Wellbeck and Pedro?

Again, if Evan is that talented why loan him out when Brighton have a chance of securing Top 4 or Europa League?
