“Outrageous” | Saints Huge Demand for Walker Peters

Southampton are demanding £10m as well as Flynn Downes in exchange for right-back Kyle Walker-Peters.

This would value the Saints’ defender at a whopping £25m, given that Downes was expected to move for somewhere in the region of £15m.

The latest revelations would go some way to explaining why both the Walker-Peters and Downes deals have been dragging on over the past two weeks.

Essex-born Downes is a die-hard Hammers fan and has reportedly been encouraged that he may get a crack at first-team football under new head coach Julen Lopetegui. The midfielder thoroughly enjoyed his loan spell at the south coast club last season. He remains a Hammer at heart, and if he forces his way into the West Ham first team, it’s believed that would be his chosen outcome.

Judging by the breaking news reports, it looks as if it will be increasingly difficult for West Ham to complete the transfer of Walker-Peters from the Saints.

Keep Downes ad look for another right back. By their own admission they missed Downes badly when he got injured last season. It will be their loss!

  • Selsdonhammer says:

Southampton are placing a ridiculous valuation on Walker-Peters, particularly in view of the remaining time on his contract. Bearing in mind how vital Downes was to them last season – you only need to see their results when he wasn’t playing – it’s clear that they need him more than we need their player. If anything it should be Walker-Peters plus cash for Downes. Call their bluff and keep Downes and go for Wan-Bissaka at £17m.

Have you ever watched KWP play?? He’s an absolute monster!!! If he had 3-4 years left on his deal he’d be worth 40 million in today’s world easy. He’s a miles better player than tino livromento and yes Tino has great potential but KWP ain’t exactly old either!!

      • Rob Thomas says:

As a Saints fan, we shouldn’t sell KWP. He was one of our two best players last season (and the season before). Downes was the other. My preference would be we keep KWP and pay a fair price for Downes.

        • Bill Ryan says:

You need downes more than we need peters we got got shafted paying 30 million for a 30 year old ward prowse because of moyse love affair with set piece players so what your wanting for him steidten is now in charge of transfers and will not pay that for him considering in last year of contract

  • My middle leg says:

Probably hearsay and rumours, no way is KWP worth anywhere near 25m. I’d say Ings and 10m and keep Downes

  • Pongo says:

We should just not do business with the saints anymore at all, let walker Peter’s contract run down then sign him on a freebie, saints will regret it then and walker Peter’s wants to join this exciting hammers project as well.

  • Jrs says:

I’d try and steal Sugawara from them, from AZ for £5.9m is a deal! Fast great passer, gets forward well can cut in and cross.. tracks back as well. I like KWO but only a year left I know we need homegrown but keep Downes and get Sugawara then use that money to get Philogene & homegrown solved.

  • Benny the Aussie says:

I hope we keep Downes and he gets a fair crack with us. The Saints living on a prayer.

  • elduder says:

    fairs fair

    20m plus KWP for JWP

  • Gebby says:

Perhaps Ings and 10m would be a better deal, Keep Downes his a quality player.

  • John Ayris says:

Many fans think that a players value is related to how good they are, that’s only partially true. Age and length of contract are huge factors. Even the best player in the world walks for nothing when their contract runs out.

Walker Peters contract is running out, so unless he is prepared to sign a new one then he is not an expensive player.

If Southampton are not realistic then look elsewhere.

  • mark wiggins says:

Ha no way , we should keep Downes , he’s a decent player and puts in a shift ⚒

  • Kip says:

We definitely should keep him…Good player and will get better

  • John simmonds says:

He’s a hammer through and through. He got the **** end of the stick off of Moyes, quite unfairly. Never put a foot wrong when he did play. He deserves a chance. Incidentally does anyone remember how he got stuck in to those Alkmar thugs last year. He wouldn’t have done that if he didn’t have the balls for it.. That alone should give him a clean slate and a fair crack. And he won’t cost anything. If it doesn’t work out then let him go next year.

  • Mike says:

As a saints fan I would not sell KWP he’s been fantastic this past year, id be offering him a good contract.
Ings would be a squad player so I wouldn’t pay anymore than £6m otherwise keep him and continue paying his huge wages.
Downes had a great season for us because he played consistently, I would definitely be willing to pay the £15m asking price but I know some hammer fans are saying keep him but what happens when he again plays a handful of games and lands himself on the bench because he doesn’t score enough goals he’s value will drop his form will drop another wasted talent.
