Outrageous Wage Demands Make Transfer a Non-Starter

I have to admit, I almost spat my cornflakes out this morning when I read about the wage demands mentioned in Sean’s earlier post.

Could it really be true that Carlos Soler’s demands to join West Ham permanently were a staggering £240k per week? It sounds utterly ridiculous and completely dwarfs the £140k the Hammers reportedly paid to Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez who is widely accepted to be the clubs highest ever earner.

I’m not sure how this information about Soler’s wage escaped me for so long, but it makes perfect sense given that the Spaniard’s current Paris Saint-Germain salary is precisely that. And I guess one could understand why the player would not want a drop in earnings but it will surely hinder any move.

Earlier this week, Claret & Hugh were informed by a source that Soler was unlikely to remain at the London Stadium beyond the end of the season—and it’s easy to see why.

In terms of performances, Soler has blown hot and cold without providing a compelling reason to turn his short-term stay at West Ham into a long-term deal.

If the club and Graham Potter were on the fence about signing the midfielder, the fact that he expects to maintain his PSG wage next season is reason enough to walk away

Let him go Gonzo. Way too much for an average player. Don’t get me wrong, he’s had his moments but definitely not worth £240k a week! There’s better cheaper options out there.

    He’s NOT a 240k per week player.

Mind, having said that, NOBODY is.

Absolutely! It irks me when I see players demanding such salaries but don’t deliver on the pitch Ings comes to mind.

I can’t really say he’s set the world alight while he’s been at West Ham.
Another one to say adios at the end of the season

I think for ‘warm’ that should be tepid regarding performances and chilly rather than cold. I wouldn’t waste a penny piece on Solar.
