Oxford suffers humiliation

Wolfsburg ran riot against Augsburg on the final day of 2018/1 Bundesliga season, with an 8-1 win securing their place in the UEFA Europa League group stage next season.

Loanee Reece Oxford played the full ninety minutes of the humiliating defeat for Augsburg.  The German club finished the season in 15th place, one position from the relegation zone,

The West Ham defender is poised to complete a permanent (4m Euros) £3.4million move to Augsburg this summer activating a clause in his loan agreement.

The 20-year-old who is reported to earn £20,000 per week with the Hammers has been on loan since January, making nine appearances. Oxford is understood to be close to finalising personal terms ahead of agreeing a contract and will be officially announced as an Augsburg player when the German window opens on July 1.

Oxford, who has two years remaining on his West Ham contract, has not featured for the Hammers since January 2018.
He knows he has no future under Manuel Pellegrini who earlier this year took the unusual step of telling reporters he had better options in Germany either on loan or permanent.
The manager told a press conference “He is a player that has already played in the Bundesliga and he has an option to continue improving, going on loan or sell, I think he must do it because he needs experience.
