West Ham have poured a cold dose of reality on reports that Lucas Paquetá’s betting case will be resolved next week.
Speaking exclusively to Claret & Hugh, a London Stadium source clarified that while the Football Association is expected to deliver a verdict next week, the sentencing phase will be delayed, potentially dragging on for months.
“There is a chance we will get a decision on the case next week,” the source said. “But any sentencing or punishment will come later—possibly in the next two months.”
The source added: “Nothing will happen until we get the result of his case. That should be in the next two months. The Manchester City case has dragged on, so they [the FA] might wait until the end of the season.”
The drawn-out process is likely to cause further distress for Paquetá, who has already been visibly emotional in recent weeks. The Brazilian was seen breaking down in tears during Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham, and there are growing concerns within the club over the toll the uncertainty is taking on the 27-year-old midfielder.
West Ham have reportedly been monitoring Paquetá’s mental wellbeing, with club insiders fearing that nearly two years of waiting and speculation could be having a significant impact.
For now, the waiting game continues—but with no clear end in sight, Paquetá’s future remains hanging by a thread.
Everyone knows that 60 bets placed for 7 pounds or so isn’t a giant betting conspiracy . I spend more than that on video games for my son . So are the FA incompetent idiots or is there a deeper conspiracy to damage Paqueta and Westham . Whatever the answer they need to be sacked and possibly charged for criminal negligence or worse . How can Westham retain Betway who have damaged the club they sponsor .
Imho the whole thing is complete b0ll0x.
Saying that though….
A bet is a bet, doesn’t matter how much or how many. If he got booked on purpose 🤷♂️ guilty
BetWay also didn’t have a choice, unusual betting automatically gets flagged.
The player & club need to take the FA to the cleaners, lost revenue, depreciation of assest, loss of earnings, mental health being
Why oh why when everyone can see how this affecting this human being are the FA still dragging their feet. I think FA actually stands for how much they do weekly, f–k all!
The Fa Should just close the case now. There’s no way this does any more than add to the bill that they will end up paying at this point. I expect it’ll be north of £100m when all said and done. Buffoons!
This has gone on too long, keeping a lad in suspense for 2 years…..Stinks.
Well it looks like they have made a decision then because they are discussing sentencing because if he’s innocent why would they need to sentence him so if this has been said it looks like a decision has already been made
Clickbait
I believe this was all done by Betway, our Sponsors, to stop his transfer to Man. City and it has all gotten way out of hand and now the FA, after jumping all over this, have got to find a face saving way out of it.
They will fail miserably and will have to compensate both Paqueta and West Ham massively and it is dragging on because probably they are looking to do a deal with both parties that is never going to be adequate.
I believe he is innocent and these remarks are my personal thoughts.
Don’t talk stupid
The FA are dragging this out in the hope of FIFA and Brazilian FA are going to pronounce on their investigations and charges.
Easy job then. Innocent. FA will say that they also have insufficient evidence to give a secure conviction. Having said that, they will also say that they were right to bring these charges and in the best interests of all involved it is time to move on with no blame (no compensation claims to be entertained) apportioned to anyone. End of.
Lucas Paqueta can breathe again despite his career having been ruined and FA can continue safe in the knowledge and self-satisfaction that they have behaved in a correct and proper manner throughout this diabolical fiasco.
Oil on the fire rather than on troubled waters. Hope this story ends soon.

So….basically this is another case of a headline about nothing which simply defeats the expectation of the reader.
It’s also reliant on Paqueta being found guilty when there is no evidence that he will be.
There are other holes in this non story but I can’t be bothered to go into them.
The fa have no evidence against Paqueta but worried about financial consequences of him being found innocent which is reason for delay They made a big mistake and must make sure he’s found guilty
Surely, the result of the case next week is the only part that matters? Guilty or not Guilty?! If he’s found guilty it’s irrelevant when the sentencing will be… it’s a life time ban and probably the appeal road, which in any case means he’s finished as far as West Ham are concerned….
