West Ham fans can breathe a sigh of relief, at least for now. Recent updates from Fabrizio Romano suggest Manchester City, previously heavily linked to Lucas Paqueta, might be exploring other midfield targets.

Manchester City has been a persistent admirer of Paqueta, but their attempts to acquire him have been met with resistance from West Ham. Last year, City’s offers were rejected, and a potential renewed bid this summer was hampered by an FA enquiry into Paqueta.

According to Romano, City might be prioritising other midfielders in their summer transfer plans. This is positive news for West Ham, as it reduces the likelihood of Paqueta leaving.

City is also reportedly giving Brazilian youngster Savio a pre-season trial. If Savio impresses, he could emerge as an alternative to Paqueta.

Even if City remains interested, West Ham’s stance plays a significant role. Paqueta’s hefty £85 million release clause could discourage City, especially considering their ongoing financial constraints.

West Ham fans will be hoping City prioritises other targets and that Paqueta stays beyond this summer. While Paqueta’s recent form hasn’t been stellar, his talent and importance to West Ham are undeniable.

Overall, the situation regarding Paqueta’s future remains unclear. However, City’s potential focus on other midfielders offers West Ham a glimmer of hope in retaining their Brazilian star.

Paqueta won’t leave until the FA betting probe is over – which may or may not be before the transfer window shuts in August – I can understand the player’s frustration with the delay – but for now he should just concentrate on performing for the hammers
