Paqueta: Fans played big part in me joining Irons

Lucas Paqueta has been explaining his reasons for joining the Hammers.

All of us were thrilled to bits when the Brazilian international pledged himself to the club given major interest from elsewhere.

The Brazil international is one of the world’s top attacking midfielders and eventually became the club’s record signing as David Moyes and the board showed their ambition for the club.

The 25-year-old has started to show some of his form – notably against Viborg – but there is clearly more to come from a player who has serious creativity to follow.

His love affair with the Irons started last season when he was part of the Lyon team which played us in the Europa League and has revealed he had little hesitation in joining us following the French club’s defeat.

Speaking to www.whufc.com in a story covering his career he described his feeling after visiting the stadium last season.

He said: “After we played West Ham in the Europa League last season, we all said as players what a fantastic stadium it was and how great the fans were and what great energy there was in the place

“That’s definitely something that influenced my decision as well. Without a doubt, it’s an incredible Club and something that I wanted to experience.

“It was really that desire that everybody at the club showed in this amazing project they have and the fact they wanted to include me in that really cemented my decision.

“When I arrived here and saw how much confidence everybody and all the fans had in me and how happy they were to see me here, it just makes me want to reward them and pay that back each time I get on the pitch and just to commit myself and devote myself to this Club.”
