Paqueta gets a Brazilian not guilty verdict

|

Residents in Lucas Paqueta’s home town totally reject any suggestion that their most famous son could be involved in a football betting scandal.

With the FA involved in a probe over allegations that could be the case, locals of Paqueta Island, which the Hammers midfielder named after himself, refuse to accept any thoughts he could be guilty

Mail Sport sent reporters to the the island where inhabitants made their feelings known in strong terms.

“I don’t think he is involved with these betting schemes,” one local told them.

“He liked to goof around a lot on the island with his brother, but doing something incredibly wrong like that is not him.”

And she added: “Lucas helped during Covid. I guarantee you he is not into this betting thing. It’s not in his character or his family’s. His grandparents, his parents, his uncle… all of them are good people. It’s absurd this is happening to him in the best moment of his career.”

Meanwhile the Brazilian appears entirely unworried by the allegations himself by providing some fine performances   in the opening three games of the season.

Hi Hugh. Lucas (Tolentino Coelho de Lima) actually named himself after the island he grew up on – not the other way around. Just saying!
