Paqueta may open door to big signings

David Moyes insists that signing Lucas Paqueta from Lyon will open the door to other big signings.

The Hammers have splashed a club-record fee on the Brazil international, bringing him in from the French club and hugely strengthening the squad in east London.

And Moyes believes that the signing of the Brazilian will send a huge message in the transfer window.

Speaking to reporters, he said: “I do, and I think one of the things that will make a difference is Paqueta’s form will help us. If Paqueta plays well here I think it will be a big, big thing for us because we’ve got one of England’s best footballers here at the moment, maybe two. We’ve brought them on and they’ve done well.

“If we can bring a Brazilian player in it will send out a message in Brazil that this is a good place to come. We don’t really get the best young ones, the models like Man City have, but maybe we’ll become much more attractive because the Brazilian nation will be watching, and South America will be watching Paqueta play for West Ham more than ever before.

“Him playing well would be really important.”
