West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta is embroiled in controversy after being charged by the Football Association (FA) for breaching betting rules. The charges centre around four yellow cards he received during the 2022-23 season, with the initial investigation triggered by a booking in the opening game against Bournemouth.

According to The Sun, Paqueta reportedly requested manager David Moyes to exclude him from the Bournemouth fixture. This request stemmed from potential transfer interest from Manchester City and a fear of injury jeopardising the move. Despite his reservations, Paqueta eventually played and received a yellow card, sparking the FA inquiry.

Although Paqueta didn’t refuse to play against Bournemouth he made it clear that he didn’t want to feature.

The report indicates that Paqueta eventually agreed to play after senior figures at West Ham intervened.

Moyes had indicated that he would look to substitute Paqueta earlier to minimise the chances of him being injured, but he remained on the pitch for the majority of the game.

From the 70th minute Paqueta was seen frequently looking over at the bench, which suggested he wanted to be substituted.

All very strange, there might yet be another twist to this saga.

    I don’t think there’s a bucket big enough Df.
A man is innocent until proven guilty, but I cannot see an organisation with the clout of the FA, taking a player on for match fixing without concrete evidence. Their reputation and credibility would be in tatters. If Paqueta is guilty, then he’s a C**T, for having NO RESPECT for the glorious game. NO RESPECT for WHU. And NO RESPECT for himself. GET RID!

What an awful picture of WH at that moment. Moyes legendary lack of any man-management skills or game management, and Paqueta pure selfish motives of wanting out of the club above the result for the match. Glad Moyes has gone; no love left for Paqueta and his patchy form due to indifference. We need to move on.

Agree just shows moyes was a terrible man manager towards his players so glad he’s gone

Could mean he was trying to get out of his “obligations” or it suggests that he is innocent.
