West Ham United technical director Tim Steidten has assured fans that Lucas Paqueta’s ongoing betting charges are not hindering the club’s transfer plans.

The Brazilian midfielder faces serious accusations from the Football Association (FA) of deliberately getting yellow cards in Premier League matches to manipulate betting markets. Paqueta has vehemently denied these charges and is currently competing in the Copa America with Brazil.

A guilty verdict could result in a significant ban, jeopardising Paqueta’s career and potentially forcing West Ham to re-evaluate their transfer strategy. Manchester City had previously shown interest in acquiring Paqueta for a hefty sum exceeding £80 million.

Despite the uncertainty, Steidten remains confident. He underlines that Paqueta remains a key player for West Ham and is available for selection. He recently met with Paqueta in Brazil to reiterate the club’s support.

New West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui has also offered his support to Paqueta, acknowledging the mental strain the charges are causing.

West Ham’s unwavering stance suggests their transfer plans are unaffected by the Paqueta saga. The club maintains its commitment to the player, and his involvement seems uncompromised until the investigation reaches a conclusion.
