Paqueta the cause of Moyes pain

Lucas Paqueta can be a joy to watch at times but he fell badly foul of his standards at Villa on Sunday and was the cause of manager Davis Moyes pain.

Make to mistake the Brazilian loves to showboat but let himself and the team down dreadfully with a decision which left Moyes – whilst making no attempt to name him – pretty annoyed after it had led to the second goal for the home side.

Instead of clearing a ball from the penalty area he instead decided to carry it out of the penalty area before  making a terrible backward pass which was intercepted and from which the opposition scored from the spot after Edson Alvarez was  forced to make a foul.

At his best Paqueta is a joy to watch but that was a shocker along sometimes with his play acting when clearly playing to the ref for fouls!

Moyes has discussed his problems with the player in the past and how he can frustrate him with some of his decision making so his comments on the resulting penalty at Villa will come as no surprise.

Paqueta was poor all round. Regularly knocked off the ball , which is unlike him, and I’m surprised so little has been made of him being away with the fairies on Villa’s first goal. He didn’t even seem to realise it was ‘his’ player that scored.
He was in good company though. Apart from Bowen, no one played particularly well and some played simply badly. Roll on Thursday and Sunday.
