Payet breaks silence on desire to leave West Ham

payet-cropped_1ih2hk8dhze8s14hom18ie4a9hFormer West Ham player Dimitri Payet has told French newspaper L’Equipe that he made his intentions to leave West Ham clear at the beginning of the season but the club didn’t take him seriously at the time. He went on to claim that his former team mates understood his behaviour and congratulated him on his recent goal against Lorient.

Speaking about his desire to leave Payet told L’Equipe “I warned them that I was going to do it but maybe they didn’t take me seriously. I told them straight in the eyes I would assume the consequences of my actions. Slaven Bilic knew that I had desires to play elsewhere.

“Already at the beginning of the season, when I went out of the Euro, we had discussed my exit. The club refused to let me go. I respected that choice. But the football situation worsened. Our way of approaching matches, the defensive system put in place did not please me. You can say that it bothered me, yes. I got through games without any pleasure.”

“In January, I told him I wanted to leave for Marseille and nowhere else, asking the manager to pass the message on to the owners. That day he told me that it was not possible and I told him I would no longer would play for West Ham.”

He claims he is still in contact with some former team mates saying: “Most of my former teammates understood my behaviour even if the way was rather brutal. West Ham players have even supported me, and there are still those who congratulated me for my goal against Lorient.”

On West Ham supporters hatred of him: “It’s normal. They hated me as much as they loved me. That’s why the reactions were as violent. I cannot blame them. For a year and a half, they have given a lot to me and I will never forget.”

  1. Well he has mad a proper mug of all the fans defending him because the dear sad soul needed to leave for family reasons.I was expecting him to break his silence soon and obviously expected it to be some negative line.
To be brutally honest i couldnt give a **** what he thinks.

  2. Should we have expected anything different his career has been littered with fallouts, strikes and leaving a bad taste in his previous clubs mouth.
Give him a season and he will be saying the same about OM.I can see it now.

  3. Is that the best he could come up with.Aint got a clue what the truth behind it is 100%,i guess we will never know.Unless of course you are an ITK 😂😂

  4. do it my way or i’m going to sulk & go home. Bored..? the club was paying you £125k a week you ungrateful ****

  5. But that wasnt the actual reason he left was it.Well if some of the ear to the ground fans would have you believe.I think there was more to it but the way some state it almost factually is amusing.
Did he phone them personally to give them the full unedited version..er i dont think so.No they have gleened bits of info from social media. They know **** all more than anyone else.

  6. Does the guy actually listen to himself? One contradiction after another. So did he want to leave straight after the Euros? After we went out of the Europa League?
Or when we played badly against Hull?
Was it for family reasons? Or for Bilic’s style of play?
And if that was indeed the problem, why only go to Marseille and not any club that plays attacking football?
I think should the truth about this come out one day Payet will not look good at all in this. His current stay at Marseille will probably end in tears too…

  7. The simple facts of the matter of Payet the man is that he has left a trail of dissatisfied fans and employers throughout his career. He is obviously a very shallow man who has no loyalty at all,not even a glimmer of it.
It really doesnt matter what some fans think or dont think is the truth it doesnt change who Payet is at all.
Deschamps knew what he was like when he dissed him and said he wanted lions not lambs in the team. Many of our own fans called Deschamps a fool but he clearly knew far more about him than we did.
