Stuart Pearce’s Talksport interview when discussing the David Moyes managerial situation will have done little to assure the fans that they can feel fully confident on that front.
Another 24 hours has passed since we discussed the scenario here and despite behind the scenes assurances that all is well nothing has changed publicly.
Nobody is sure whether the boss remains on the Everton’s wanted list although the Toffees have made it clear they won’t talk to him unless they are given permission which won’t be forthcoming with him still having a year left on his current deal anyway.
Pearce, meanwhile, has been giving his own take on the situation and although it coincides with what we have learned thus far – that the boss has agreed a three year deal in principle. However, it remains to be signed.
It’s a bit tricky trying to fathom why it hasn’t happened so far and with Alan Irvine unavailable in anything but a consultancy role apparently and Psycho not committing, the worries are understandable.
Talking to the radio station he said: “Well, he (Moyes) is certainly speaking with the club now.
“For all intents and purposes he has agreed and the club have agreed to extend his contract as such.”Yet the ex-England international defender is also set to extend his stay in London.
He continued: “Until David signs his contract it follies me making any sort of movement of signing an agreement with the club.
“The club have made me an offer which I am very grateful for but I’ve not spoken with them in regard to agreeing a contract because my allegiance is with David. He was the one who brought me to the club.”
With the club desperate for the fans to return it really may be the time it does all it can to give them some sort of assurance via any statement they are in a position to make.
I must say that I am now keenly following the managerial situations at Everton, Palace, Spurs and even Newcastle
I will breathe a sigh of relief when Everton make a non-Moyes appointment and Moyes signs for us
Meanwhile spare a thought for Steve Bruce – spent the whole season as manager of Newcastle while they ran a book on who will be the next Newcastle manager with (his description) “the mighty Rafa” a hot favourite throughout
There is a possibility he won’t sign , if he is not offered reassurance about funds and the players he wants . Would be bad for us , so hope he does sign ⚒
It’s not about assurance of funds – he’s agreed in pronciple so let’s hope he’s the man of honour he is reputed to be
The problem is manifesting itself now, until David signs, then Stuart, Alan in a new role, probably keV as well will all hold back. Not only that, but it is no secret that Lingard came here to play for DM so we are unlikely to get him unless David commits. This is now looking urgent.
Yes this Silence is a bit disturbing.
No news is good news as they say, but I dont like it one bit at the moment!
I wonder if Moyes is holding off until he sees who the chairmen buy, if so am very happy about that, he should be backed and the chairmen should be going all out to get his targets.
I would expect the board have made promises and Moyes will push this further making sure that he has a free hand on those promises before signing.
If he has been promised certain funds and a free hand in the market he will want to make sure promises are kept and no excuses in changing their minds.
This is a very good point not yet made. The ball is in Moyes’ court with regards us and Everton. A smart move would be as you stated. He could have given Everton a timescale to decide on them or us and that may give the board the same timescale to get purchases completed. Doesn’t say a lot about the trust between the manager and the board if your point is valid, does it?
Clearly there is an issue for Moyes regarding a new contract otherwise he would have signed it by now, surely. It’s utterly pointless speculating on what players are coming in until we’re sure the manager is on board. It’s typical West Ham really
Quite right. A bit of “chicken or egg”. He won’t sign unless they commit to purchases, they won’t commit till he signs. Not really unusual – just negotiating. Trust? That is why contracts are in writing.
Worst scenario: he remains with one year and we don’t recruit.
