Pellegrini admits it was a “disaster”

“I changed three players because I could only make three changes. I could have changed all the players.”

Manuel Pellegrini

No mincing of words, no excuses but at the end of the day Manuel Pellegrini’s words simply don’t help.

He has come in for criticism for his starting X1 and there can be little doubt that had we seen our regular X1 on the pitch from the start, the outcome would almost certainly have been entirely different.

Instead we perhaps thought we should and could have got away with it but against a wound up Wimbledon threatening from the start we were always in trouble.

Declan Rice’s absence’s may have been particularly significant because he would surely have cut out many of the moves which were coming in waves throughout.

hat never happened at all last night and the third goal was the killer. The Hammers were much better after that but once again the slow starting situation which was a problem since Bilic remained unaddressed. It has to be sorted.

Said the manager: “Maybe we thought we were going to win because we are a Premier League team and they are in League One, but Wimbledon played with the desire to compete in this cup. In the first 45 minutes, we didn’t fight.

“We talked before the game that this game happens a lot of time where the team in the lower division beats the team which is better because they play every ball as if it is their last ball of the game. We didn’t have that attitude and when we could, we didn’t try.

“The pace of the game, the way we fought for every ball and the way we made movements to receive the ball were disappointing. I changed three players because I could only make three changes. I could have changed all the players.

“Unfortunately for us, they scored their third goal in the first or second minute of the second half, which made it very difficult.

“I repeat, we found a team which played every ball as if it was a final for them. I don’t think they play like this in every game in their league but we know, in the cup, the weaker team can play as if this is a final.

“It’s very frustrating because you can be eliminated, but not in the way we were. It’s a disaster.”

  1. I have to say that’ts quite a honest statement…Time to stop scratching your head MP….we all know what a shiiiite squad you inherited …..and hands have been tied by horrndous injuries sustained….The whole world saw us get torn apart and embarrasssed by the wombles on a sat night ….(got to hand it to them they deserved the win )
There’s no need for an autopsy – we were murdered and mugged on live tv….some players should be nicked…. serious fraud squad, false representation of Premier league footballers and impersonating PR footballers in general…. its totally clear for all to see …..Our squad are mostly frauds and has beens or never going to be’s ..we know what needs to be done ..but this is shocking …

  2. As soon as I saw the team, I knew we had blown our chances of reaching the 5th round. Masuaku and Ogbonna are the worst left sided pair of defenders in the Premiership, if you could even call Arthur a defender.
    Absolute shambles.

  3. In the first 40 minutes I was wondering whether Noble was on the pitch, Diangana rarely received a pass, the second goal we conceded was similar to a couple of others we have let in, most similar to Carlos Sanchez against Wolves when Neves dispossessed him and Traore had a clear run on goal. There is clearly a very soft centre from midfield back without Rice in the team. Obiang should be sold he has been a loyal servant but his head is all over the place if last night is anything to go by.

  4. You are right about the slow starts. Add to this a dodgy defence & you have a recipe for problems. Once you go down you are then chasing the game with a dodgy defence. We may now be in a position of chasing those games with a strike force consisting of two busted flushes -AC & Hernandez- & a reluctant soldier.. top half may be a more realistic target than Europe League or top 8. Yes it is only one game, but that one game showed how thin this squad is at present with all the injuries.

  5. Pelligrini doesn’t understand what the FA Cup means to the fans . It obviously doesn’t mean that much to , Him . Wrong team selection if you want to win and we’re unmotivated .
Wimbledon played like men possessed and we just slouched around the pitch . West Ham
Mom was Antonio , he gave his all , but he was doing it alone .
Maybe the whole Anautovic saga has had an effect on the team and yesterday’s performance was sad .

  6. I think as much as some want to scapegoat the likes of AC the game was actually lost in midfield and defence. Obiang in particular had a terrible game with mistakes leading to goals. Also Ogbonna, and Masuaku were terrible and Adrian could have done much better. It was a bad performance from the whole team.

  7. I’m stil! In shock , and they are all just a disgrace ,,I really don’t want to hear the excuses especially the bad day at the office or we will make it up to next Tuesday as we have herd is so many Times…..that was the f.a cup not the carabou cup and the team selection was so bad but at least it showed the following………caroll not good enough anymore and not sutible to the team ,….. Adrian not good enough….. obiang not good enough… Perez just awful ..Hernandez past it …mauaku ,Jesus Christ….noble top man but squad player at best ,,,, oggy inconsistent ..and m.p what have you done to your Barnet just not good enough..and not a good look ..😁 but on a serious note always and always will be No CONSISTENCY..

  8. Need to shift Masuaku,Hernandez, and Obiang out now in this transfer window! And get people in who are interested in doing there job for the money they earn? Either get players on contract or loan???? Or give some of the academy’s players a go.

  9. A lot of the gloss came off Manuel Pellegrini’s stewardship for me last night. I wanted an FA Cup semi-final or better rather than the difference between a couple of places in the Prem. Pelle obviously thought differently and placed more importance on Tuesday’s visit to Wolves. For me a massive mistake. He put the wrong team out and we got battered. I put the blame for the defeat entirely with the manager. He knows how the players are performing in training and by the time he tried to correct the mistake at half-time. Second string players got a second string result. Half the team weren’t got enough and shouldn’t have been on the pitch. In Pele we trust – erm, maybe not quite as much as yesterday morning.
