Pellegrini finances and contract: the facts

It’s time to put the new contract or rise talk for Manuel Pellegrini to rest once and for all after reports emerged this morning claiming David Sullivan had put a block on new talks as none have ever been discussed.

It also alleged that the manager would welcome the opportunity to discuss a new contract and is likely to demand around an increase on his current wage of £10 million a year.

In fact he is on £8 million with another £2 million distributed among his back up team.

However, the reality is that new contract talks are the furthest thing from either side’s mind right now.

The likelihood of him staying or going was well covered in our story 11 days ago at https://www.claretandhugh.info/no-hurry-to-extend-pellegrinis-contract and absolutely nothing has changed.

A source rang us this morning on seeing the story: “Pellegrini’s relationship with the board is first class and he has been given more money for signings than any manager before.

“Their trust in him is complete but talk of new contracts and demands is premature. Everybody is more than content with the current situation and terms.

“At some point next season a new deal looks set to be on the cards but no such arrangements are in place as early as the start of his second season. Why would there be – there’s no requirement.”

It’s very clear that the manager is more than happy with the club and his squad but as he heads towards his 70s nobody is naive enough to rush into anything when there’s nearly two years left on his current deal.

As for there being a rise on the cards but BLOCKED when he has finished 10th in his first season and is in fifth place in his second after seven games – err, no, not really!

  1. One would imagine that our board and manager would look at options at the end of the season. The story that circulated by a couple of “sites” gave me a giggle first thing this morning. Not that long ago the same places were talking about getting Mr Mourinho in to replace Pellegrini.
