Pellegrini hails ‘leader’ Rice!

Manuel Pellegrini has hailed the talents of Declan Rice!

The midfielder has emerged as one of the best players outside the top six for West Ham this season.

His goal against Arsenal in December capped a superb start to the season.

And the leadership qualities being demonstrated by the 20-year-old have been hailed by the Chilean, who has handed Rice a total of 25 appearances in all competitions thus far this season.

“He has become a big player for us and he has a massive future,” he told the Daily Mail.

“He is a mix of technical ability and power and he can play as a holding midfielder, as a midfielder or even a central defender.

“He always wins his physical duels. He commits very few errors with his passes.

“Right now, Declan is leading by the way he is playing. He doesn’t talk because he’s still young but he shows leadership on the pitch with his performances.”

Rice will next be in action on Monday when the Hammers take on Liverpool, before back-to-back London derbies against Crystal Palace and Fulham.

  1. Must be nice for Pellegrini to have something positive to talk about when it comes to Declan. I must admit, when Bilic first put him in the team I thought it was too much too soon and that he wasn’t ready, but he’s continued to improve since then, has taken advantage of picking the brains of Bilic, Moyes and now Pellegrini and is really developing into the player we all think he can be. If he stays with West Ham in the future then I think he is nailed on to be Nobles successor as captain.

  2. Pellegrini should ditch the players with bad attitudes and an inability to show commitment at the end of the season. Lucas Perez, Hernandez, Arnautovic are the three main culprits, Reece Oxford also, we need men in our team not expensive losers. Rice is a winner who puts it all on the line every time he takes the field, Diop, Zaba, Cresswell, Balbuena, Anderson, Noble and Fabianski, Diangana has shown potential, Silva looks like he has that too, we need more young hungry players that want to win trophies in the squad.
