Pellegrini set to stick with Roberto

Moment of horror as Roberto punches into his own net at Burnley

Manuel Pellegrini looks set to stick with under-siege goalkeeper Roberto for the upcoming clash against Spurs on November 23.

Whilst there have been widespread calls for the manager to bring in David Martin for the game it seems unlikely the former Millwall man is unlikely  to get the call.

ClaretandHugh undestands the son of legendary defender Alvin Martin was offered a contract aimed at making him what is known in the game as a ‘training ground’ keeper and a first team call up would be a shock.

There is always a remote chance that a change could be made but it would be a big surprise were the boss to go with him rather than his favoured No 2.

A Hammers source told us today: “It would be a shock of he called him into the first team – the likelihood is that Roberto will be given more time.

Despite some big mistakes there have also been some top saves and although anything is possible in this game, the present thinking seems to be that he will hold his place for the Spurs game.

“Nothing is ever written in tablets of stone but that seems to be the situation at this time.”

  1. Then he’s an idiot.

    • Oh and if he is just a training ground keeper then the u23 has to have been our 3rd keeper, so play him, as the first choice is injured and the 2nd choice is woefully out of form.

    • Wow the confidence will.continue to subside in to oblivion with our “defence “and most of all.us the SUPPORTERS..CHAMPIONSHIP BECONS.

  2. The Samaritans phone line is going to be busy on the back of that news!
It’s all well and good saying that the guy has made some top saves. Yes, he has made one or two decent saves and got his body in the way of others. The fact of the matter remains that he is conceding goals far too easily and, because we are toothless in attack, is costing us games.
The January window can’t come quickly enough.

  3. He saves are irrelevant as he has already caused the damage during every game he has played. If he starts against spurs he will make a mistake as he will be a bag of nerves. The players know it,the crowd know it and so will spurs. If Martin has just been brought in as you say for training purposes then again it’s shows we are still being mis managed if we don’t have a suitable keeper as back up to the back up as I doubt trott is ready either. What a complete mess.i think Roberto will end up costing MP his job and has only himself to blame

  4. That’s why he should be sacked, not enough options.
So if Roberto gets injured are they saying Martin can’t play?
Sounds a bit strange surely they just get the Anyang from U23’s to stop shots in training.
    Weird.

  5. this is madness, we would be better to play with 10 men, if that old man honestly things he deserves another game, lets pack up now and call it a day.
Roberto is the worst keeper I have EVER seen, not just at westham, anywhere.

  6. That’s West ham cattle trucked then? Till the proper goal keeper returns or any other goal keeper for that matter. Thats how much confidence Roberto gives us fans! God knows what it gives the players???

  7. How bad must the other fella be!

  8. Sorry but if this is true it really could be the end.Unless Roberto has been living in a nuclear bunker for the past week he must surely have heard the bombardment of all the critics from within and outside the club about his calamitous keeping.Loneliest and most unforgiving place on the pitch and a team that has no confidence in you is the perfect storm. Why is Martin with us.?.This one lies squarely with management and sheer incompetence if they feel they do not have an alternative.but to play him again.I heard we could of had Etheridge from Cardiff but that clown Husillos (who only scouts abroad) opted for you know who.

    • Then the same remark can be addressed at every other manager in recent years cos there have only been one and a back up unless I’m mistaken 64

      • When all is said and done Hugh what we have learned is that Fabianski is the most important player in our squad and that we must at all costs find a suitable no2 in January.Problem is unless your goalie is injury prone chances are as the no2 keeper you are going to spend most of the season on the bench hence there are quite a few Roberto types out there looking for a club.

  9. We won’t improve our position until Fab comes back then. A depressing month or so ahead.

  10. Shocking, absolutely shocking.
If this is true they can all pack their bags and return to sunny Malaga.
Oh wait, maybe they aren’t welcome back?
