Pellegrini praying Carroll stays fit on a rare appearance?
Manuel Pellegrini has once again sidestepped a direct question on Andy Carroll’s future – or perhaps more accurately the lack of it – at West Ham.
The striker – again injured – looks certain to go out on the sort of low to whuich we have become so accustomed over the last four years or so.
It figures of course that the manager cannot tell it as it is but it would probably be unwise for the player to draw any comfort from Pellegrini’s refusal to explain that the game is up.
With Maxi Gomerz now the major target for him and and another likely to arrive at the club this summer Carroll’s day is done but the manager chose his words very carefully again when questioned by reporters.
Asked directly by reporters what will happen at the end of the season the manager as far as the player was concerned he said: “I’m not thinking about next year, not only Andy but all the players. We must finish this season and after that evaluate what we did and then try to have the best squad for the next season.
It seem almost beyond the bounds of belief to realise that over six seasons at the club the striker has appeared just 118 times with many substitute appearances involved in that figure.
