Pellegrini spectre becomes reality

By Dave Langton

The spectre of Manuel Pellegrini took on a grim reality this evening as Manchester United beat Liverpool at Old Trafford.

It means that the Hammers are now rock bottom of the Premier the first time since the 2018/19 season under the former Manchester City boss.

That season, the Irons lost their first four games, going down 4-0 to Liverpool, 2-1 to Bournemouth, 3-1 to Arsenal, and 1-0 to Wolves.

That left them rock-bottom, although they did rally to finish 10th, winning 15 of their 38 games.

Of course, thus far, the Hammers haven’t won a game, going three without a victory, and the only other team in the league who were pointless was United, after chastening defeats to Brighton and Brentford.

After United took all three points at Old Trafford the Irons are bang bottom, and looking for points from the trip to Aston Villa this weekend.

After the last couple of seasons the position we find ourselves in is more than a tad embarrassing.

  1. I take comfort that Liverpool with all their player assets and great manager haven’t won in three games!

  2. From the headline, I thought you were going to suggest we’ve spent a fortune on players and still aren’t any good.

  3. Different era. West Ham have moved on from the team that averaged 11th place.
Different manager. Moyes actually has a long term plan. Allardyce, Bilic and Pellegrini didn’t.
Most of the players are different. I’m looking forward to see how our team evolves after 1/9.
Different fixtures. West ham were really unlucky at Forest. Could’ve had 3 points easily.
Different circumstances. Our yardstick is now 6th or 7th. Are you saying that won’t happen?

By the time the season breaks for the World Cup Finals, West Ham will be in the top half.

    • If they continue to play like they did against Forest and Brighton they are more likely to be in the bottom three than the top ten. Whilst you cannot fault the achevement of the last couple of seasons there is a growing concern that the other teams have learned how to play against West Ham and there is no plan B. I suspect that the players have also worked this out and are frustrated. Aston Villa is a very important game and will tell us whether Moyes has leaned anything from the last two games (and most of the second half of last season) or whether he has got anything new to offer.

  4. Definately won’t happen, only one way this season with Moyes at the helm & that is down………..
    Relegation battle this season……….
Get rid of Moyes now before its to late…….

    • Smell
For a team to go forward they have to be proactive.
Play youth for an extra spring in the teams and fans step
Buy better players when you are winning
Use substitutes to influence the game
When players are off form rest them and change us

None of these Moyes has done at .

He’s created his own downfall. It woof been easier to do one or two of these things but he has failed
He knows it and his demeanour shows this.
He’s taken us as far he can.

  5. Spot on smelly. Let’s judge it after ten games, not three. I didn’t have high hopes for Man City and Brighton anyway and Nottingham Forest was just plain unlucky if you ask me. Onwards and upwards.

  6. We’re starting to sound like fickle Gooners. Anyone remember this stage last season…Arsenal bottom with 3 defeats and no goals. And look where they finished up. Too soon to panic yet.

  7. What is it with all this pessimism? Sure we’re going through a bad patch. But look, there’s been so much churn in the squad, and it takes time to settle and sort it. And it had to be done to move us on from where we were last season
How would dumping the manager and bringing someone else on from scratch help?
I reckon whoever we get there’s going to be the same old complaints and calls for change every five minutes. There’s plenty of other clubs like that you can go and support if that’s what you want.
Sorry – bit of a rant – but you need patience, and be prepared for some downs on the way up.

  8. So much churn in the squad……… Moyes is using the same players aĺl over again !!!!

  9. Same players that got us into Europe two years running
