New Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini wants to convince the West Ham owners to buy a really big name in order to attract other major players to the club.
He gave former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy – who he took to Malaga – as an example and clearly hopes he can repeat the act at the London Stadium.
Speaking to the South American media he said (and this is an approximate translation from Spanish by @WestHamSocial): “We’re trying to get the owner to loosen up to make an important investment and bring the players we need – the idea is to sign a great player. It’s very important for the status of the club, because that will help convince other players.”
Obviously, some sayings do not translate well from one language to another and sometimes it can be taken out of context but it appears that Pellegrini has ambitious plans and wants to the owners to invest big.

The manager added that he understood he had around $80 million based on what he had read in the English press.
So he’s assuming he has a budget of 80mill (pounds ?) as that’s the sum being reported in the press? Surely discussions on transfer budget availability would have been had prior to his appointment? If not it’s a massive leap of faith on Mannys part, hopefully not misplaced.
I seem to remember a £75million budget being promised . Does that ring a bell with anybody else ? .
What he wants and what DS will provide are probably around 135° apart.
Bear in mind, Good Cop: DG, spouts absolute nonsense, at the best of times. The day before Pellegtini was hired, DG banged on about how he hopes Moyes will get the job.
As to latest budget, he said live on TalkEvenMoreNonsense, that WH will PROBABLY spend more than ever before, this time.
As I have suggested previously, it is unlikely DG has much say, let alone knowledge, about what is going on at WHU.
He seems to be nothing more than a ‘butter-wouldn’t-melt’ front man.
Only Pellegrini and Sullivan know what was promised.
Whatever that was, if DS does not fulfil his commitment, Pelle should walk, and the fans likewise.
The initial DS aim of rapid season ticket renewal has been achieved, so now it is time to put up or be forced out.
Effective protest does not equate to betrayal.
Betrayal is the raison d’être of DS and Baroness Rottweiler.
Think you spout more BS than you accuse everyone at the club of doing! Take it you’ll support Orient this season, since you no doubt like to go on about ‘real clubs’, ‘proper, traditional, footy clubs’.
If more fans that go on about these things went & supported these ‘real’ clubs they wouldn’t be struggling like they are-or maybe you want us to be like that?!!!
‘Effective protest does not equate to betrayal.’
Bang on the money fella!
So long as those promoting and agreeing accept that those who disagree have the right to that view which is not to say I am taking either side, just that balance is important.
Couldn’t agree more Hugh
Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, imo😄
I think comments from both sides are fair – Pellegrini is obviously a top manager and I hope he wins me (and other doubters) over
What we have unfortunately is a history of half truths and undermining of managers from Sully – the way that Moyes was shafted still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth – if teh owners wanted to change manager, they should have met with Moyes and his team before interviewing any other candidates (sorry I’ve even forgotten Zorro’s real name, but interviewing him with a big media splash was pretty classless).
The stories of Pastore and other marquee signings bring to mind two seasons back talk of Lacazette and Batshuayi and last season Carvallho
Hopefully Sully will back Pellegrini for the full term of his contract – and at least take note of comments (e.g. from Moyes) about things that need to change within the club
