Strikers left, right and centre according to rumours and reports this week. West Ham’s need to bolster the front line in January is filling column inches across Europe and of course down in Brazil where the latest Yuri Alberto offer has apparently been made and rejected.
Brighton’s Evan Ferguson has been a serious contender for a likely short-term loan to West Ham – the Seagulls apparently don’t want to sell him (c’mon, this is Brighton, they sell everyone!) but would consider a loan agreement which the player wants, to enable him to get more game time. According to various reports yesterday (Give Me Sport) West Ham are now ‘at the front of the queue’ (whatever that means) to sign Ferguson on a loan deal: Leicester and Southampton want him on loan but, not surprisingly, the admiration is not reciprocated any the player.

Evan Ferguson
Having priced him at £100 million it seems from various reports this week that he’s likely to fetch more like £60 million: Way above West Ham’s aspirations.
A six month loan deal looks increasingly likely in January as many clubs simply refuse to price their assets sensibly, none really wanting to part with a player mid way through the season. Brighton in fact, might be well advised to hang on to Ferguson as an injury to Danny Welbeck may bring the young striker closer to a start at the Amex.
With a style that really would make Ferguson the perfect Antonio stand in, (C and H, Tuesday), we can only hope the loan is more in the Jesse Lingard’ vein of success rather than the abject failure of ‘Kalvin Phillips’.

Imn sorry but we dont need a stand in we need a young c forward to come in on a permanent basis who is capable of making that position his own for years to come
100% agree. The fact we are still playing Antonio 5yrs after signing Haller is depressing.
A young striker with 2yrs premiership experience is now in the £50-60m range and we have to get our heads around that or be prepared to continue to go for strikers from other leagues which have not worked out well for us.
Personally I was in the Duran camp and have no idea why we signed surplus midfielders and wingers at the expense of being able to compete financially for a long-term striking solution
Totally agree. An abject disaster of a decision to whoever was responsible for that!
Hate the idea of a loan without an option. We are not getting relegated this season (or pushing for any European places), so why lower ourselves by acting as BRIGHTON’s!!!! Shop window?! Take a punt on a youngster from abroad where we can negotiate a realistic option should they prove to be successful. At least this way we are taking steps to future-proof instead of have someone come in, potentially be successful, and then be back to square one come the summer….
Would be a no brainer but Sullivan will quibble about the loan fee. Have a feeling that Fullkrug will have an impact in the coming weeks, if only to impress the folks back home.
He has got to be worth a try. He was very good when he first played for Brighton. When you think about Jon Duran last season he hardly ever played yet villa fans said how good he was. And this season has proved that.
agreed, suspect he wouldn’t come with an option to purchase but it is a sensible way to have a decent option ready to hit the ground running without paying the earth in January
I’m sceptical. If he was that good then OAP Welbeck wouldn’t be playing ahead of him. But I suppose a loan deal is like a test drive, a chance to kick the tyres.
