Behind all of the advertising hype, for those lucky enough to have Sky TV there is a huge change afoot- in addition to the Premier League’s rule changes, goal keeper timing out and ‘corners awarded’ for holding the ball, player interviews on the touchlines- one major shift that hasn’t been talked about will have a massive change on how we watch football.
Described by Sky’s director of Sport as making football ‘Supersized’, the unveiling of new feature ‘ multiview’ means the end of channel hopping: Subscribers can watch four games at the same time.

Without wishing to write an article which sounds like a SKY advert, this multi view package could be a relief in particular for jaded West Ham fans who had to sit through a season of Lopetegui-ball followed by Potters occasional paralysis. Help is at hand since you can keep an eye on three other games at the same time without feeling guilt over a Hammers’ switch off.
Choice of ‘main game’ is up to the Sky editorial team so don’t expect the Irons to be the feature on the bigger of the split screens too often: But a big broadcasting change and likely to ease the pain of supporting the Irons – just a little.
With the other changes to the Premier League – new footballs, VAR’s semi automated technology along with in-stadium broadcast VAR verdicts for fan clarity – it is poised to be quite a different looking campaign. For better or for worse.
Love Final Score. Love Soccer Saturday. Love to watch a full game uninterrupted. Love to be absorbed in the game I’m watching.
Hate it with a passion when exclusive game broadcast becomes a news stream with the latest scores elsewhere. Not going to like Multiview.
So huge iimprovement for the armchair experts. What does this offer for those of us who get off our backside, pay for tickets and actually attend a football match…. for those who don’t know that is, it is where you can see the whole pitch and get a real understanding of how your team is perfroming…. rather than get a snapshot of play, on a screen, driven by what the director and camera operator considers relevant.
The answer to my question is…. nothing.
Attending is the only way to avoid the mindless, clueless drone of Jonathan Pearce and his mates. The only trouble is that there will be in close proximity a twit or two delighting in looking at their phones and shouting out the news. No escape. Maybe live viewing with Cockney Rejects playing gently through the headphones? Still not satisfactory – maybe just getting old. Need to join the ‘kids’ watching whilst enjoying a crafty little bet or ten on the Boylesports app. (how do they all win?)
You’re right Legin.
The premier league in general is a dull as dishwater with the possession based, pass out from the back, slow everything down and the occasional counter attack tactics. Perhaps if you watch 4 games at once you might get 20 mins of entertainment between them.
Just rather not watch it… Its being americanised right in front of our eyes.. Time outs!! just the beginning.
