West Ham fans can breathe a sigh of relief with the news that Manchester United is close to making a signing, and it’s not Edson Álvarez.
United’s top midfield target throughout the summer transfer window has been Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte; however, Álvarez has always been considered an option, as first disclosed by Fabrizio Romano.
Ugarte was given permission to travel to the UK yesterday, with United agreeing to a transfer deal worth around £50 million.
Ugarte then hinted that the move was imminent, and United is now moving closer to finalising the transfer. This means the Red Devils will end all interest in Álvarez.
Romano claims that Ugarte is now undergoing his medical ahead of officially becoming a Manchester United player and is set to sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford.
This update is fantastic news for the Hammers, who were braced for a late raid, despite Álvarez stating that he was looking forward to playing under new West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui this season.
