Plastic season ticket cards, paper tickets and print from home tickets will need to be phased out by the start of the 2026 season club minutes from the West Ham fan advisory board confirm
The February FAB minutes say “The Club shared details of new Premier League rules to be introduced in the 2026/27 season. The rules will make digital tickets a mandatory requirement and Clubs are responsible for ensuring all tickets are assigned to the specific individual supporters who are attending the match”
At the Premier League’s Annual General Meeting in June last year, clubs agreed to the phased adoption of new digital ticketing requirements, commencing from the start of the 2024/25 season.
An increasing number of clubs have already introduced digital ticketing, helping to make the sale, transfer, and use of match tickets more efficient and secure for clubs and supporters.
These emerging developments have been used to create a set of requirements for the sale of Home and Away match tickets across the whole Premier League. A two-year phased in period will began in August last year, creating an opportunity for all clubs to make the necessary changes to its current ticketing offer.
Digital ticketing will become a mandatory requirement for all existing Premier League clubs by no later than the start of the 2026/27 season. Newly promoted clubs will have a period of two years to implement its use upon joining the League.
Downloadable print at home tickets are digital – it is then the choice of the user to decide whether to print them or not. Therefore, if this is being phased out in addition to the rest (and paper I can understand, but plastic cards that can be retained and used again and again is less understandable; also, and I reiterate the objection I had when this first started, what about people that continue to not use smartphones and equivalent devices, of which there will no doubt be a sizeable minority?) then it is an effort, not just on the part of our club, but apparently the Premier League, to restrict freedom of choice. I wonder if anyone has actively investigated the legalities of this.
More efficient, absolute load of rubbish.
If it’s so efficient and effective why are they charging booking fees?
These people don’t want traditional supporters anymore, they aren’t efficient.
So if I can’t attend a game I will no longer be able to forward my ticket to a family member or friend? If that’s the case I’ll probably be giving up my season ticket as that’s a joke.
Please confirm if that is the case Sean.
Unless I’ve missed something, forwarding tickets to friends and family isn’t affected.
As long as they’ve got an account and a smart phone you can forward as usual?
It’s just paper and plastics cards that are being discontinued?
