Mass Exodus but no West Ham signings
The West Ham player exodus seems to be accelerating, with the January sale and squad clear-out already witnessing the departures of Thilo Kehrer, Conor Coventry, and Gideon Kodua.
It’s widely known that Maxwel Cornet, Said Benrahma, and Ben Johnson are all available for sale in this current transfer window. The latter is of particular concern as he is in the final stages of his contract, and regular right-back Vladimir Coufal appears to be unhappy.
Moreover, Nayef Aguerd is reportedly available for the right buyer at the right price, despite an ongoing injury crisis in defence. This fire sale appears to be in full swing, but as of now, there seems to be no one remotely close to signing for the Hammers.
West Ham have expanded their scouting team, led by director of football Tim Steidten. Given the injury crisis at the club and the lack of usable substitutes, one would assume that recruitment should be a priority. However, manager David Moyes suggests that signing players during the January transfer window is challenging. Despite this, examples like Jarrod Bowen, Tomas Soucek, and Jesse Lingard debunk the myth, highlighting successful signings in previous January windows.
Compounding the issue, leaks from the club indicate that West Ham are not close to signing any players. This is a major concern because, if true, it raises the question: why are players leaving if there are no reinforcements coming in?
It can only be assumed that the club is working diligently behind the scenes, as a Premier League game is just eight days away, and the squad is looking significantly thin.
