Whispers

Player Ratings: Larnaca v West Ham

Areola:6 I’m not entirely sure Larnaca had a threatening shot until the 89th min so hard to appraise Areola.

Kehrer:5 Played in West Ham’s problem position at right back and never really looked 100% comfortable. Too frequently out of position allowing his opponent space to run into.

Zouma:6 A couple of good headers but largely untested. Slipped when in possession but didn’t prove costly.

Aguerd:6 Cruised through the game on autopilot. Made a good block near the end of the game.

Cresswell:6 Never really tested, sometimes sloppy in possession.

Downes:6 Neat and tidy but didn’t really impact the game. Got injured during a challenge in the 53rd min. Yellow card means he misses the return leg.

Rice:7 Good driving run for Antonio’s second goal. Tackled well.

Lanzini:8 Started brightly, had a dip then exerted his authority as West Ham’s best passer.

Fornals:5 Doesn’t have the necessary qualities as a wide player. Looked better when he drifted centrally but the safety first selection of him as a defensive winger stifles the West Ham attack.

Benrahma:7 Took a while to get going but made a slalom dribble which gave The Hammers a much needed attack. Picked out the unmarked Antonio with a right footed cross as The Hammers went 1-0 ahead.

Antonio:9 Important clearance from a corner as Larnaca piled on the pressure early in the game. Opened the scoring with a deft header. Scored a second just before half-time with an impressive long-range curling strike. Hit the post early in the second half. Picked up a knock.

Scamacca:5 59th min sub for Antonio

Soucek:6 On for Rice.

Bowen:6 On for Benrahma as part of a triple substitution. Immediately more threat on the right.

Paqueta: late substitution for Lanzini. Wasted a chance when one on one with the keeper.

Cornet: 82nd min sub for Fornals. Created a golden chance for Paqueta with a fantastic pass. Looked bright.

Harsh rating on Fornals quality player yet another player who has been demoralised by Moyes being played out of position. A top quality 8 in beside Rice and Paqueta but the deluded manager we have just not see it. The highlights tonight was Lanzini, how anyone can play Soucek ahead of either Fornals or Lanzini is incredible. The other highlight was Cornet he looked very good and perhaps he could be the player to save our season.
