Carabao Cup at The London Stadium

Fabianski:6 Unconvincing flap from a corner. Excellent stop just before half time. Saw plenty of the ball as the team continued to pass back to him.

Kilman:7 His usual commanding self and another clean sheet.

Todibo:5 Picked up a yellow card and replaced at half time.

Wan Bissaka:7 Incredible run from left back almost created an opportunity. West Ham’s best attacker in the first half. He will be a Hammers favourite.

Coufal:6 Covered Todibo well after he’d made an error. Tackled well.

Alvarez:5 Not quite at his best but protected his defence. Hard to say too many positive things about a midfield which I hope to never see again.

Ward Prowse:3 Part of a midfield three that didn’t function in the first half.

Soucek:3 Effective in the box a liability out of it when asked to feed passes forward.

Bowen:5 Anonymous in the first half as seems to be the case so far this season. Far too deep. Moved up front for the final 15 mins and accidentally scored the most clumsy goal you’re ever likely to see.

Summerville:5 Wasted the best chance of the first half when he blazed over having been set up by Fullkrug. Almost scored with a great curling shot at the beginning of the second half. One good run forced a corner.

Fullkrug:3 Starved of service but one or two nice touches. Understandably looked frustrated. Hooked after 74 minutes and I did wonder if he was grateful considering the lack of creativity.

Substitutes

Mavropanos:5 Introduced on 45 mins for Todibo, immediately put his team-mates in trouble. Outpaced by Evanilson as Bournemouth should have scored.

Paqueta:5 59th min sub for James Ward Prowse and finally gave the Hammers someone who could pass the ball but his good passes were too infrequent.

Rodriguez:7 Double substitution saw the Argentinian replace Alvarez. Some decent interceptions and passes.

Kudus:6 On for Summerville in the 73rd minute. His shot created the goal and went on a decent run in injury time

Emerson:5 Replaced Fullkrug

Awful performance, doesn’t look good for weekend, defo not possession based football.

    • B says:

West Ham looked like a bunch of players who had never played together before…. just not seeing what the ‘new’ style of football is at this point.
Three games in, three games the opposition has looked the better team. 😟

    • Bryno says:

What is your issue with Alvarez? In any case you’re supposed to judge the players’ performance and not advertise some bizarre prejudice.

  • RhodesIron says:

Just don’t get this Soucek thing. Did I miss a meeting or something?

  • Con says:

You never want to see Alverez again ?

    • Cueball says:

To be fair I believe Gonzo was angling at “Alverez, JWP and Soucek is a midfield three I don’t won’t to see agan”.

That’s how I read it and have to agree given the current alternatives that were looking on from the bench. To be clear a fit Alverez would ALWAYS be in my starting XI.

  • Hammermax says:

Defence got run ragged by exactly what we need – pace. Any quality and Bournemouth win convincingly. Even our breaks are laboured, AWB the only exception. 6 for Coufal is generous.

  • Essexhammer42 says:

Awful team performance so slow. Thought Moyes was back seeing Coufal and Soucek constantly passing backwards to Fabianski who just slows distribution even more then long kick upfield. Tobido was so slow and poor distribution. JWP offers nothing apart from free kicks and corners and would not be surprised to see him sold. Bowen great player but strangely inconsistent with a lucky handball for the deflected goal, thank goodness no VAR.

Wan Bissaka was on a different level and another good performance from Kilman. A 5 is harsh for Summerville as he showed good technique with only decent shot all game and good link up with Wan Bissaka. Lot of work before City this weekend!

  • Cueball says:

Come on people! Alverez with his first start of the season, Tobido, AWB, Sommerville and Fullkrug all with their first starts for the Hammers (Todibo and Fullkrug their first in English football I believe). Cress done in the warm up so AWB playing out of position and Vlad drafted in. Star players on the bench … but we want to bag the performance and look forward with doom and gloom?

Was it the best performance … No.
Were we the better side … No.
Did we get a bit of luck … Yes.
Was it the worst performance ever … Of course not

Anyone want to chirp in with a positive? I’ve got LOADS and I’m looking forward to giving City a run for their money at the weekend (and of course Liverpool in the next round).

  • Timco says:

How did you give Coufal 6, what game were you watching, one tackle & a cross field pass, apart from that absolutely awful, constantly out of position, beaten on the outside & inside constantly & can only pass backwards.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

I couldn’t be at the game yesterday as away but am hoping that playing badly and winning sometimes playing poorly and without conceding happens more frequently with Lopetegui, I said it in another post but I feel with a new coach, new style and lots of foreign players, it will take a while before they fully adapt to the PL, it took Paqueta a whole season and no one doubts his quality. We have to replace pretty much every Moyes player over time to have players with fast feet who are good in tight spaces. Todibo looks like an alka seltzer dropped in a glass of water, he is fizzing around everywhere, I can only guess he wants to make a good impression and is overdoing it, hopefully he finds the pace quickly and settles down. Yesterdays game could be described as a reverse Arthur Scargill, terrible strike, great result ! COYI !!!
