Player Ratings: West Ham 3 Chelsea 1

Areola:9 Quick to react and save Coufal’s blushes following an error. Looked to have conceded a penalty as he rushed out to deny Jackson who was offside. Made a good save from a fierce Gallagher shot. Saved the penalty following Soucek‘s error. Outstanding save in the 92nd min.

Coufal:6 Double trouble for Coufal with Chilwell attacking from deep. A thankless task against Chelsea’s avalanche of attackers.

Zouma:8 Challenging task having to deal with Jackson’s pace. Unable to deal with the quick direct running in the build-up to Chelsea’s equaliser. Eventually managed to get under the skin of Jackson and grew into the game.

Aguerd:8 Precision header to score from the new boys corner. The one player in the Hammers defence who had the pace to combat the Chelsea attack. Did such a good job on Jackson that the forward decided to try his luck elsewhere. Impeccable tackle on Stirling. Made an idiotic tackle when already on a yellow card. Such as shame because Aguerd was a serious man of the match contender. Stupid.

Emerson:7 Unconvincing to begin with, given a tough time by the rapid Raheen Stirling. Battled well and won a penalty in the 94th min.

Soucek:6 Unable to stop the dancing Chukwuemeka from his position. Soucek had retreated into a central defenders position following sustained Chelsea pressure. His bad day at the office continued with a clumsy hack on Stirling which conceded a penalty. Some form of redemption with a clearance from Chilwell. Further redemption arrived in the form of a block tackle on Gallagher. Made a good headed clearance.

Ward-Prowse:8 Made his debut and an immediate impact with a perfect corner which assisted West Ham’s opener. Got his second assist of the game with a delightful ball over the top to Antonio. Every corner was dangerous.

Paqueta:8 Unsurprisingly selected for the game. Looked to be in agony following a nasty fall in the second minute. Lack of concentration almost led to a Chelsea goal but was unlucky not to score following some nifty footwork. Finished the game incredibly well to waste time and scored a penalty to make it 3-1.

Bowen:6 Forced into defending for much of the game as Moyes men dropped deeper and deeper. Bowen was a defender until he replaced Antonio up front with 14 mins on the clock.

Benrahma:6 His reluctance and inability to pass hindered West Ham early in the game. His decision making was incredibly frustrating to watch. Improved in the second half and won a corner. Sacrificed for Ogbonna due to the red card.

Antonio:9 Defended well at times. Was slightly hesitant during his foray into the opposition box during the first half. Scored a wonderful goal early in the second half. Antonio controlled the ball brilliantly on his chest then advanced on goal and unleashed a powerful shot low inside the far post. Remarkable selfless performance.

Fornals: 76th min sub for Antonio. Excellent work-rate as one would expect. Almost scored to make it 3-1

Ogbonna: On in the 68th min as a result of the Aguerd reshuffle. Won two important headers as Chelsea chased the Premier League points.

Alvarez: 80th min sub for Edson Ward Prowse. Immediately made a sliding block to stop a cross.

    A 6 for Soucek???!!!

Did you not see how many blocks he made?????

  • hammerpete6 says:

Antonio great, Ward-P fantastic, Paqueta magical, Benny does his usual double, caught in possession then a shot 10feet over the bar. Soucek great in the air, awful in the tackle. Paqueta magical. Look forward to Alvarez, W-P and Paqueta in midfield together fingers crossed. Obvious we need some young strong running talent incoming, starting with both full backs.

Have to say, all this constant chat about players not wanting to play for Moyes is looking very foolish tonight.

  • Budgie says:

Interesting to see what’s happening on the pitch compared to social media chat. I sometimes wonder if the key board warriors ever see or go to matches!

  • Buster says:

Can you imagine how things could’ve been different if Maguire was playing in place of Aguerd or Zouma? With a very capable performer in Ogbonna on the bench, we’re not desperate for another centre back when there is also Kehrer to consider.

Soucek made two terrible mistakes for first goal and his clumsy challenge resulted in the penalty. No more excuses he is completely out of his depth. He made some vital clearances in the last 15 mins and thats exactly when you bring him out. If chelsea had scored the penalty it was game over. Soucek can no longer start games.
