Player Ratings: West Ham v Everton

|

Gonzo gives his ratings

Fabianski:6 Not much to do in the first half but claimed a couple of crosses well and helped set-up a counter attack.

Coufal:6 Solid in defence and limited in attack. Not ideally suited to the wing back role.

Zouma:8 Great to see him back, and took his place on the right side of a back three. Immediately into the pace of the game with headers and interceptions. Sustained an injury in 28th min which didn’t look good. Never looked fully fit but played a crucial role in Bowen’s first goal. Surprised to see him come out for the second half.

Aguerd:9 Fantastic range of passing and started the game on the left side of defence. Probably the pick of our summer signings. Magnificent tackle on 76 mins.

Ogbonna:7 Least busy of the three central defenders but looked calm and steady.

Emerson:7 Fantastic cross for Zouma which led to the opening goal. Defensively susceptible and Everton began to target him in the second half. Forced a great save from Pickford with a great run in the second half.

Rice:6 Great ball in the first half set up Bowen. Crucial clearance at the beginning of the second half. Won the midfield battle and was unlucky not to score.

Paqueta:5 Helped out in midfield with a number of tackles.  His performance was all about industry rather than flair.

Bowen:9 Clumsy early start to the game with the ball getting stuck under his feet on a couple of occasions. Often double marked by Everton. Scored after 35 mins following a flick-on from the hobbling Zouma. Got his second a few minutes later with a poachers finish following great wing-play from Antonio.

Benrahma:6 Forced a good save from Pickford late in the first half. Not his best game but made a wonderful pass in the second half.

Antonio:8 Full of energy and clearly up for the game. His run from the right wing for Bowen’s second goal was classic Antonio. His best game for a while.

Soucek: Introduced for Paqueta as part of a double substitution. Broke up play and made things difficult for Everton to play.

Ings: 70th min substitute as Antonio tired. His first touch was a nutmeg against Davis which won The hammers some much needed breathing space. Looked lively and comfortable on the ball.

Downes: Late replacement for Benrahma. Killed time really well.

Johnson: 80th min sub for Emerson. Excellent run and cross down the left hand side.

I’m a huge Ogbonna fan, and today was the first time he really looked up to his old standard, standing firm in the center and making clearance after clearance. I’d give him an 8 as well.
