Pochettino blames long ball & state of pitch

|

“Always it is difficult, it was a game that was more physical than others, in the way that they play, always this long ball, and they try to fight in every action, and they are very strong,” Pochettino told Sky Sports.

“For us it was difficult for the way that we want to play, and the pitch wasn’t good and didn’t help us. But I think in the second half we had more freedom, played better and created chances. ”

“First half was difficult for us to adapt in the different circumstance, the pitch was the first.

“The second, they play a very strong team and it was difficult to manage and to play how we play in the last few games.

“It wasn’t a good day for us, but in the second half we managed and created chances. We had the control of the game and possession of the ball.”

It’s funny how the pitch improved in the second half. You would expect it to get worse in the rain.
As for the long balls, we play a very good balance of long and short ( just like man u did under Ferguson. )

      Good point!

Maybe WHU simply have one of those pitches that magically improve with lots of wear and rain, yeah?…or maybe Pogettino is just a bad loser?…which one?…hmmm…tough one that!
Full marks to Pogettino for coming up with SOMETHING (however ridiculous) to explain why his team were beaten in every dept…Interesting how he couldn’t be equally inventive on the tactis front…
“It’s ‘appened again, it’s ‘appened again. Tottenham Hotspur; it’s ‘appened again”!
WHU WILL HAVE BEATEN SPURS IN OUR LAST GAME WITH THEM AT THE BOLEYN FOREVER!
      COYI!

      • COYI247 says:

Oh…and WHU were playing on a different pitch…so of course it was not fair! Yeah, right Pogettino…

Tottenham kicked the game off, one pass to the player next to the centre spot, then one pass backwards and then HOOF to the front line!!!

What game was this fool watching??? Hypocrite.

  • IronHammer says:

Oh, just shut up mr. Pinocchio. You’ve been outplayed and that’s it. The quality of the pitch.. I’ve been at Allianz arena this time a year and can say the condition there isn’t great too, but somehow Bayern is playing. Antonio was right when he said that we played in the same way spurs did throughout season and we outplayed them in their game. Bunch of bullies finally got their arses kicked. COYI!

So the irony is obviously lost on the man, their high pressing, in your face, hunt in packs, harassment, panic you football gets matched and done to them and he doesn’t like it. No excuses, show some class, show some dignity, oh just like our manager! The Slaven Way, The West Ham Way

Tottenham were poor, I can only remember Adrian making one save and fielding the ball a couple of times. During our talks beforehand I was building up Lloris as a class goalkeeper but West Ham had a plan to get in his face quickly and he had a bit of a nightmare with his kicking going all over the place. You could see that Delli Ali was a class player when he came on, but the rest were anonymous and you can’t see them winning the Premiership on that sort of performance.

West Ham on the other hand were fantastic, Noble led by example and the Team were full of fight and energy – the only down point was James Collins pulling up lame – but it gives an opportunity for Reece Oxford or maybe Kouyate could be used as a central defender.

What a brilliant night under the lights at Upton Park – I hope that atmosphere can be replicated at the Olympic Stadium next year!

the pitch was not at it’s best, but as the saying goes “it was the same for both teams”…

as for long ball – i saw a few, but quite frankly, who cares!! Spurs were rattled from the very start, we didnt give them an inch and they had no response whatsoever. in past years we’ve seen Spurs fight back and win these games against us, never looked like happening last night

  • jaybs says:

Long ball? was he at the same game, okay the pitch, but the rain helped that a lot, they did not seem interested, perhaps one or two of them, to not have one shot in the first half should worry him much more. We are a different team we do not lie down any longer and let teams walk over us.

    • WestGoaHam says:

Well, Spuds, not being from London, England, wouldn’t know the pitch or anything about the weather????????? Hahaha

  • IronMan says:

On the day we were the better team… that’s it, in a nutshell. Spurs were poor, we all have off days, but our ‘makeshift’ defence was immense. I thought Obiang was outstanding…Antonio ran himself into the ground, and Captain MArk Noble looks like he’s had a new lease of life since he’s been offered a testimonial. Spurs are playing a lot of football at the moment and, let’s face it, they’ve been very good this season, but I’m suprised at Pochetino making excuses: there was nothing wrong with the pitch; we weren’t overly physical (they have played Everton, haven’t they?) and we didn’t/don’t play a long ball game. With those caveats, he got it right. Apart from goffing around, what did Adrian have to do all night?

  • winslow says:

I honestly thought this guy had more class than that, just goes to show you can’t trust anything that comes out of North London, thats the sort of excuse you would expect to hear from Mr Wenger….

  • bubs says:

They played as many long balls because they had no choice,or we allowed them to play tippy tippy football on the half way line,
2 shots on target all the game that’s what he should be looking at, his subs made no DIffrence because as a manager he had no answer,
He will play on a lot worse pitches then ours,
Same old thing all the loosing managers blamed everything a part from their failure,
Man Fity have given up on the league and The FA cup and Pep will have a long way to go to change this mind set,
Wenger and the gooners have done the same for 10 years this is when their dreams fade and die,
With Man U,Chelski,Leicester,Gooners,Watford still to play Everton is one of our easier games but we never do well at their place,
We need to win defeats is not an option,

    • niall_mcdonald says:

good point – how many towering headers from Collins clearing our lines! double figures easily
