Polish Fab deeply aware of Yarmo agony

West Ham sign Andriy Yarmolenko on four-year deal - Eurosport

Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski as a Pole more deeply aware of the massive problems in the nearby Ukraine than most  and is doing all he can – with the rest of the squad – to support team mate Andriy Yarmolenko.

Poland has been allowing thousands of fleeing  Ukrainians to cross the border as the Russian advance – this morning reported to be 40 miles long – continues.

Like us all, the Hammers stopper is horrified and scared at what is happening and has made it clear the the squad are doing all they can to support the midfielder in a time of deep personal concern.

The club posted a message to the people of Yarmo’s nation ahead of the game on the London big screen at the weekend and the player has made a personal donation to the country’s war effort.

And now Lukasz has spoken out about the situation as football comes entirely into perspective.

Commenting to www.whufc.com he said: “It’s a scary situation in Ukraine, but we’re trying to support Andriy Yarmolenko and his family as much as we can.

It’s been very emotional for me personally as well. In some ways, I feel like I’m very close to the situation because we, as a country, try to help the Ukrainian people so much.

They are so brave, so I think the way we took a stance (in the game against Wolves)  not only us, but if you look throughout the whole football world, everyone is supporting Ukraine.

I just hope it’s going to resolve in a good way, and we really wish Yarma the very best.

We’re trying to support him and help him as much as we can and I think that it was a very beautiful moment before the game. He’s got all of our support, and the whole of Ukraine do as well.
