Billy Bonds had the East Stand named after him yesterday while the South and North Stands at London Stadium are already named after Sir Trevor Brooking and Bobby Moore.
Next season ticket holders in those three stands will get images of those players on their plastic season ticket access cards to honour the legends.
That plan has raised questions what will happen to the remaining West Stand and whether that could ever be renamed after a West Ham figure in the future.
It is thought that the West stand will be retained for a future sponsor but with no stadium naming rights partner in site these things can easily change as it did with the East Stand at the London Stadium.
So today in in our Claret and Hugh poll we ask you who would name the London stadium West Stand after if you had a vote?
Rushing to name it with someone who doesn’t match the current names only devalues the honour.
As already mentioned, why the haste? It’s so typical of the ”I want it now” generation.
Maybe the best is yet to come. Let’s wait until there is a candidate so obvious and deserving that there is no need for a fragmented poll because most of the names on that list shouldn’t even be considered.
Why does it have to be someone from the memory of the current generation of supporters? Why isn’t Vic Watson on the list?
Today? No-one on your listing. The right name will present itself unambiguously when the time is right – but the time is not right today. I can’t see that there’s any hurry and there should be no problem with the stand remaining un-named until the right name presents itself – anything less than that would devalue the contributions made by Messrs Moore, Brooking, and Bonds.
It may go to Noble in time, he epitomises the club.
The marko boogers stand !!!!!😀😀
From a global West Ham ambassador perspective. Someone respected as having achieved something or won something in the game, you’d probably have to go for Sir Geoff. But if the club was thinking that way then the four stands would probably already have been named Moore Hurst Peters and Brooking.
If you are going for any more modern era then youd probably go with Mark Noble eventually. Or you could have a joint stand to honour two people. Such as The Hurst/Peters stand. Or going back a few years, how about the Macavennie/Cottee stand.
Can’t help thinking that Geoff Hurst has always lived in Bobbys shadow. Our 2nd highest ever goal scorer and world cup hero. This should either be the Geoff Hurst stand or the Lyall and Greenwood stand.
